LIM College Admission 2027
LIM College admission for Indian students runs on rolling review with Fall and Spring intakes each year; Fall remains the primary window for masters. The full checklist and document flow sit in the Admissions silo.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 rolling deadline | Open now, no fixed close | File 8 to 10 weeks before start to leave time for I-20 and visa |
| Fall 2027 rolling deadline | Expected to open October 2026 on a rolling basis, no fixed close date | Earliest-decision path; Early Action decisions land late November to early December |
| Credential evaluation (WES) | Start 6 to 8 weeks before application | WES ICAP evaluation is accepted for Indian Class 12 and bachelor’s records |
| Spring 2027 semester start | January 2027 | Report on campus a week before classes for orientation |
| Fall 2027 semester start | September 2027 | International orientation runs the week before classes begin |
Planning note: Because LIM College decisions arrive within two to four weeks of a complete file, Indian applicants aiming for Fall 2027 should target a March to May 2027 application to leave a comfortable buffer for F-1 visa interview slots at the US consulate.
LIM College Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
LIM College admission requirements for Indian applicants centre on academic transcripts, an English proficiency score, and one interview. Detailed document checklists and waiver pathways live in the Admissions silo.
Postgraduate applicants (Indian):
- Bachelor’s degree, minimum 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended) — official page states no fixed cutoff
- English proficiency: TOEFL 65, IELTS 5.5, PTE 46, Duolingo 90, ITEP 3.6, TOEIC 605, or Kaplan Test of English 410
- WES ICAP credential evaluation of the Indian bachelor’s transcript
- Essay of 350 to 500 words, one to two recommendation letters, and CV
Undergraduate applicants (Indian):
- Class 12 completed with 70% to 85% (recommended); no fixed cutoff published
- English proficiency at the same minimums as PG, or a passed LIM College Language Review
- Admissions counselling session (required for all before classes begin)
Every test score above is copied verbatim from the LIM College international admissions page; TOEFL scores must be less than two years old and are reported using the official school code 2380. SAT and ACT are optional under LIM’s test-optional policy.
Key insight: Indian applicants who cannot sit for TOEFL or IELTS at their local test centre can request the free one-hour LIM College Language Review, which the admissions office administers online and treats as an equivalent English proficiency proof.
LIM College Acceptance Rate 2027
The most recent US News profile lists a LIM College acceptance rate of 93%, placing it among the least selective private colleges in New York City by admission odds. LIM does not publish a separate international acceptance rate; the 93% figure is drawn from the university’s US Department of Education Common Data Set filing and is a reliable primary source.
| Year | Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 (US News) | 93% | Stable |
| 2025 (US News) | 93% | Stable |
Indian applicants with a Class 12 aggregate above 65% and a valid IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 65 score are, in practice, likely to receive an offer. Interview performance and the essay carry more weight than raw academic cutoffs at LIM.
Reality check: A 93% acceptance rate does not mean automatic admission for Indian applicants; incomplete files, missing WES evaluations or weak English scores are the most common reasons LIM defers or denies applications, so treat the checklist as the real filter.

LIM College Campus, Facilities and Student Life
LIM College is spread across three connected buildings in Midtown Manhattan, walking distance from Fifth Avenue flagship stores, Rockefeller Center, the United Nations and the Fashion District.

- Housing: LIM guarantees on-campus residence for all first-year international students at its Upper East Side hall; second-year and graduate students typically move to shared apartments in Queens, Brooklyn or the Upper West Side.
- Notable facilities: The Adrian G. Marcuse Library holds one of the largest fashion trade collections in the US; the college also runs the Maxine Hartley Career Center with dedicated employer relations for luxury and retail brands.
- Indian student community: Enrolment of 1,781 students spans 50 countries; Indian students engage through the International Student Association and CPT-supported internship placements at brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss.
What Indian students say: Reviewers point to the mandatory paid internship as the single biggest career lever, and to the small class size (16:1 ratio) as making it easier to build relationships with faculty who still work part-time in the fashion industry.
LIM College Scholarships 2027
LIM College publishes one official merit-based scholarship dedicated to international students, alongside general need-based aid; Indian applicants are automatically considered on admission.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| International Excellence Award (UG) | Merit | Up to USD 14,000 per year (INR 13.40 lakh) | New international undergraduate students, awarded on academic merit at admission | Automatic on admission |
| International Excellence Award (PG) | Merit | Up to USD 10,000 per year (INR 9.57 lakh) | New international master’s and MBA students in STEM-designated programmes | Automatic on admission |
[Source: LIM College International Scholarships announcement]
Planning note: The International Excellence Award is decided at the admission stage from the same transcripts and English scores in the application, so Indian applicants do not file a separate scholarship form; a higher IELTS or TOEFL score directly improves the shortlisting tier.

LIM College is a specialist fashion-business institution; it is not ranked in the QS or Times Higher Education global tables, which do not cover single-subject US colleges, but it holds active positions in US News, Niche and College Factual.
| Ranking Body | Latest Edition | Previous Edition | Two Editions Back |
|---|---|---|---|
| QS World | Not ranked in QS 2027 | Not ranked | Not ranked |

[Source: US News Best Colleges 2026-2027; Niche 2026]
LIM College’s strongest ranking signal for Indian applicants is its Niche #44 location rank; specialised fashion-business tables (Business of Fashion education indexes) also cite the college for internship intensity in the US market.
Key insight: For Indian F-1 applicants, US News and regional accreditation carry more weight at consular interviews than global brand rankings; LIM’s Middle States accreditation and its STEM designation on master’s programmes are the two ranking-adjacent facts to cite in the visa file.

LIM College Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
LIM College’s most recently published Career Outcomes Rate is 96% for the Class of 2025, calculated as students employed or in further study within six months of graduation.
- Career Outcomes Rate (Class of 2025): 96% employed or in further study within six months
- Class of 2024 employment share: 94% offered full-time work in fashion and lifestyle within six months
- Median earnings 6 years after entry: USD 48,900 (INR 46.80 lakh), against a US national median of USD 33,028
- Representative employers: Tommy Hilfiger, Salvatore Ferragamo, Hugo Boss, Valentino and other luxury and retail brands based in New York
- Career support and OPT: Maxine Hartley Career Center supports mandatory paid internships; STEM master’s graduates are eligible for a 36-month OPT extension after their initial 12-month period
Insider note: Indian graduates on F-1 visas most often convert internships into H-1B sponsorship through mid-size retail buyers and analytics teams rather than through the marquee luxury brands, where headcount for sponsored roles is tight.
LIM College vs Peer Universities
The peer set below groups LIM College against other US specialist fashion-business and business schools that Indian applicants often shortlist alongside it, compared on rank, PG fees and differentiator.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| LIM College | Not ranked | 23,076 / 22.08 lakh | Only US college focused entirely on the business of fashion |
| Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY) | Not ranked | 21,000 / 20.10 lakh (estimated) | Public tuition and strongest design linkage |
| Parsons School of Design (The New School) | Not ranked | 52,000 / 49.76 lakh (estimated) | Design-first curriculum with global brand recognition |
| Savannah College of Art and Design | Not ranked | 41,000 / 39.24 lakh (estimated) | Multi-campus creative arts university |
| Pratt Institute | Not ranked | 55,000 / 52.64 lakh (estimated) | Broader art and design portfolio in Brooklyn |
LIM College’s edge is its curriculum’s business orientation and the mandatory paid internship structure in Manhattan, which Parsons, SCAD and Pratt do not replicate. Its PG fees are also the lowest among the five, on a per-year basis.
LIM College is right for the Indian student who wants a business-of-fashion career in the United States, is comfortable with a total investment of INR 45 to 50 lakh a year against a median six-year salary of INR 46.80 lakh, and values the STEM-designated OPT pathway after graduation for study in USA career runway.
It is not the right fit for the design-first applicant chasing a pure creative portfolio, a research-heavy PhD track, or a broad liberal-arts campus experience; those applicants are better served by Parsons for design and by larger comprehensive universities for cross-disciplinary depth.
LIM College FAQs
Ques. What English tests does LIM College accept for Indian applicants?
Ans. LIM College accepts TOEFL iBT 65, IELTS 5.5, PTE Academic 46, Duolingo English Test 90, ITEP 3.6, TOEIC 605 and Kaplan Test of English 410. Applicants unable to sit for a commercial test can request the free one-hour LIM College Language Review, which is administered online by the admissions office. Scores must be less than two years old on the day of application and are reported using TOEFL school code 2380.
Ques. Does LIM College offer STEM-designated master’s programmes?
Ans. Yes, LIM College’s Fashion Marketing, Consumer Analytics, Global Fashion Supply Chain Management, Fashion Merchandising & Retail Management and MBA Luxury Brand Management master’s degrees carry STEM designation. This designation matters directly for Indian F-1 visa holders because it makes graduates eligible for the 36-month Optional Practical Training extension on top of the standard 12-month OPT window, giving up to three years of US work authorisation after graduation.
Ques. How long does OPT last for Indian graduates of LIM?
Ans. Indian F-1 graduates of LIM College receive 12 months of standard Optional Practical Training after completing a degree. Those graduating from a STEM-designated master’s programme at LIM qualify for the additional 24-month STEM OPT extension, taking total US work authorisation to 36 months. Employer sponsorship, quarterly reporting, and E-Verify enrolment are the standard conditions for the extension, and the SEVIS record must remain active throughout.
Ques. Is there an application fee at LIM College for Indian students?
Ans. LIM College does not publish a mandatory application fee on its first-year or international admissions pages, and Indian applicants have historically applied for free through the LIM online portal. Applicants using the Common App may incur that platform’s own fee, but the college itself does not charge a separate application fee at either undergraduate or graduate level. Confirm the current position at the international admissions page before filing.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at LIM?
Ans. Yes, Indian students on an F-1 visa at LIM College may work up to 20 hours per week on campus during term time and up to 40 hours per week during official breaks. Off-campus work in the first academic year is generally prohibited except under Curricular Practical Training, which LIM structures into its mandatory internship courses. All employment must be authorised by the Designated School Official before the student begins.
Ques. Does LIM College sponsor dependent F-2 visas for Indian spouses?
Ans. Yes, LIM College’s Designated School Official issues Form I-20 documents for eligible dependents of Indian F-1 students, allowing spouses and unmarried children under 21 to apply for F-2 dependent status. Financial proof for each dependent is added to the original sponsorship documentation, typically at USD 6,000 to USD 8,000 per dependent per year. F-2 dependents cannot work in the United States but can enrol part-time in academic study.
Ques. Which Indian banks recognise LIM for education loans?
Ans. Major Indian public and private lenders including SBI, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Avanse fund LIM College degrees under their standard US-university education loan schemes because LIM is a US Department of Education Title IV eligible institution with Middle States regional accreditation. The typical margin is 15% of total cost of attendance for loans above INR 20 lakh, with a co-borrower parent income proof and collateral above INR 40 lakh sanctioned amounts.
Ques. How long does WES credential evaluation take for Indian transcripts?
Ans. WES ICAP evaluation of Indian Class 12 or bachelor’s transcripts typically takes 7 to 20 business days from the moment WES receives all documents from the Indian board or university directly. Delhi University, Mumbai University and several state universities in India route transcripts electronically to WES, which cuts turnaround to under two weeks; paper-based boards can add two to three weeks. Indian LIM applicants should start WES 6 to 8 weeks before their target application date.
