- Sustainability studies is an emerging field for those determined to make a practical difference in the world. The community development concentration of the sustainability studies major at Messiah University focuses on community development in both urban and rural areas. In the community development concentration, students will study urban history, public policy, sociology and anthropology to gain a well-rounded theoretical basis in creating and enhancing sustainable communities.
