Haverford College Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Haverford College reviews Indian applications holistically, weighing academic record, essays, recommendations and demonstrated Honor Code fit.

  • Class 12 academic record: CBSE, ISC or state board Class 12 with 85% and above (recommended). Haverford College publishes no fixed cutoff.
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 100, IELTS 7.0, or Duolingo English Test 130 as the published minimum thresholds.
  • Standardised tests: SAT (1460-1550 mid-50%) or ACT (33-35 mid-50%) accepted but currently optional under the Haverford College test-optional policy.
  • Application platform: Common Application with Haverford College supplemental essays, one counsellor recommendation, and two teacher recommendations.

Key insight: Test-optional does not mean test-blind at Haverford College. Strong SAT or ACT scores still strengthen Indian applications. This applies when Class 12 marks sit below the typical admit profile of 90% and above.

Haverford College Acceptance Rate 2027

Haverford College reported an acceptance rate of 13.3% for the Class of 2029. Out of 6,730 applications the college admitted 825 students, of whom 400 enrolled for a yield rate of 45%. This places Haverford College in the most selective tier of US liberal arts colleges.

Indian applicants can expect the rate to sit in a similar band for the Class of 2031 admissions cycle. Among enrolled first-year students, 93.3% ranked in the top 10% of their high school class. All admits ranked within the top 20% of their high school class.

Reality check: A 13.3% acceptance rate places Haverford College near Ivy League selectivity. Indian applicants realistically need Class 12 marks above 90% plus competitive test scores. Standout extracurricular narratives help advance past initial review.

Haverford College vs Peer Universities

Peer benchmarking uses fellow top-30 US liberal arts colleges instead of QS or THE ranked research universities. QS and THE exclude standalone LACs from world rankings. LAC stands for Liberal Arts College and is the US News category applied throughout this comparison.

[Source: US News Best Colleges 2026 National Liberal Arts Colleges rankings]

Haverford stands out among peers for its Bi-College and Tri-College course access. The Honor Code culture, extending to unproctored exams and student-led plenary governance, is unmatched among LAC peers.

Key insight: Indian applicants targeting Swarthmore for engineering can still register for engineering-adjacent courses via the Haverford Tri-College network. This makes Haverford a workable second choice for Indian students blocked by Swarthmore’s 7% acceptance rate.

Haverford College fits Indian applicants who value close faculty engagement, self-governance and a defined liberal arts identity. Over four years the investment reaches $383,940 (₹362.66 lakh) against a median early-career salary of $83,000 (₹78.39 lakh). The Haverford need-based aid promise narrows the sticker price for admitted Indian applicants.

Haverford is not the right pick for students who need engineering degrees, professional MBA pathways or urban campus access. Alternatives include business universities in USA like the University of Pennsylvania or NYU.

Haverford College FAQs

Ques. Is Haverford College test-optional for Indian applicants in 2027?

Ans. Yes, Haverford College continues its test-optional policy for first-year Indian applicants for Fall 2027 admission. SAT or ACT scores are not required for review. Submitted scores are considered in the holistic evaluation. The middle 50% of admits with SAT scores fell in the 1460-1550 band. Enrolled ACT scores landed in the 33-35 band for the Class of 2029.

Ques. How does the Honor Code work at Haverford?

Ans. The Haverford Honor Code is a student-written and student-ratified code of conduct. It covers academic integrity and social interaction. Take-home unproctored exams, self-scheduled finals and community trust are common features. The code is renewed at plenary each academic year by student vote. Indian students often flag this as the most distinctive part of academic life.

Ques. Which STEM designated majors qualify for OPT extension at Haverford?

Ans. STEM designated majors at Haverford include Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology and Neuroscience. Graduates of these programmes qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension on top of the 12-month OPT period. This gives a total of 36 months of US work authorisation. Indian STEM graduates typically use this window to pursue H-1B sponsorship with US employers.

Ques. What is the application fee at Haverford College and who qualifies for a waiver?

Ans. The Common Application fee at Haverford College is $65 for Indian applicants. Fee waivers are available for applicants with demonstrated financial need. This is requested through the Common App fee waiver form, which requires counsellor certification. Applicants who qualify for the CSS Profile fee waiver typically qualify for the Haverford application fee waiver too.

Ques. How does the Bi-College partnership with Bryn Mawr benefit Haverford students?

Ans. The Bi-College partnership lets Haverford students register for any undergraduate course at Bryn Mawr. Students can declare majors housed only at the partner college. A free shuttle runs between the campuses every 15 minutes during class hours. Bi-Co majors uniquely open at both colleges include Growth and Structure of Cities, plus Geology. Social life, dining and clubs are also shared.

Ques. Which Indian education loan providers cover Haverford College?

Overview

It gave me the most money in financial aid! Also, I liked how it was close to home and I'm always able to go back for breaks and holidays. The school is very small and I can get to know my classmates and professors extremely well which is also nice.

Fees

The tuition here is very expensive, at over $70,000. However, financial aid here is extremely good. A large chunk of your bill is for tuition, then housing, food, and other little things. For a low-income person such as myself, I pay around $600 each semester which is amazing.
