Course Curriculum

8

  • It was more of practical as we had simulations and group projects requiring us to make presentations to clients.
  • Since my course is a strategy course and all modules required some knowledge of finance, finances based modules should have been present in the course. The course was very relaxed and could have done better with more modules on it. The practical based approach is what was the positive as there was no rote learning and we were made to work on real life clients.

Admission Experience

  • Applied to Leeds (accepted), Strathclyde (accepted), Durham (accepted), CASS (rejected for international business), City London (accepted for economics), Edinburgh (accepted)
  • CASS is highly ranked and tough to get in so potentially that could be a reason for rejection.
  • Was planning to apply for Manchester university but the admission help wasn’t great so I backed out.
  • The international business course in Lancaster had different modules whereas the similar course in other universities had same subjects as my BBA. Also, I received a 6000 pound scholarship in Lancaster.
  • The admission process involved the usual essay and applying with your undergrad scores. My course didn’t require any test scores. I was also expected from giving my IELTS
  • My course does not require any tests and IELTS was exempted in my case.
  • The admission process was smooth. I was working alongside with an IDP counsellor so it was good.
  • September as most of the universities start then. Few of them have January intake.
  • I started applying in November December of previous year and had an offer by March April the year of my intake. Then, I started with applying for my accommodation and started with the visa process in June July as the required amount of funds was supposed to be in the account for 3 months.

Class Schedule

8

  • Usually it’s one class a day with maximum of 2 hours each day. The course didn’t have many classes as we were required to concentrate on the group tasks assigned to us and complete them.
  • We had one module at a time and it would go on for 3 weeks before the next one started.
  • I think around a 100 STUDENTS in a batch

Faculty

6

  • I don’t have the exact ratio but the batch
  •  size wasn’t too big so it didn’t feel like it was too much for one teacher.
  • The teaching methodology was practical and case based which was good to understand how it is really working on strategy. But since the course didn’t teach us finance and more skills could have been taught to make us job ready, I don’t think the course prepared me for the job market. It was very surface level.
  • I haven’t taken any help from faculty for jobs but some of my batchmates did take help and I’m not sure if there was any outcome to it.
  • My dissertation supervisor Dr. Florian Bauer was the excellent and his mergers and acquisitions module was the best and the most fun one. He was really the highlight of the course. He unfortunately left the university and joined another one.

Campus Life

8

  • We have only one big campus outside of the city.
  • We have all facilities including a GP, library, multiple ground, a gym, courtyards, halls etc
  • We have the fresher’s festival which happens at the start of the year for a week and it’s a nice start where you get to know about the campus. We also have roses which is a rival tournament with York since they share a history.
  • There are multiple societies or clubs at the university based on your interest you can join. From sports to any other activity, it’s present. Being a Muslim and not interest in the norm of the usual student activities, the Islamic society was a great way to make friends. We had activities going on almost everyday so it was enough to keep me occupied.

Part Time Jobs

  • I have no idea in this regard. There are opportunities available on campus but teaching positions I believe are for PHD students.
  • There are some on campus university jobs such as ambassador jobs, catering jobs etc. also, there are some restaurants on campus where students work. The hourly rate in 2022 was around 11 pounds an hour.
  • For international students while students was 20 hours per week I think. Im not sure
  • It’s moderately difficult to find on campus jobs as there aren’t many.
  • It depends where one is working. There are some people who exploit and don’t pay the standard wage. Standard wage was around 10 pounds I believe. It would be moderately difficult to find part time job in Lancaster as the twin is small so there aren’t many opportunities but many of the students did have jobs, so it must depend on personal experiences. The process for finding jobs is usually visiting places and applying in case of restaurants. On campus jobs ask you to apply online and then you would be required to come in if called.

Placement

4

  • I have no clue but it’s particularly harder for international students. I know people who have taken a year also 2 years to land a role. My advice would be to not consider the UK as companies don’t want international candidates.
  • Around 28000 pounds
  • Applying on job portals as the university doesn’t help with any companies. You have to look on your own and use the necessary means.
  • In the UK, there aren’t any companies visiting your campus. Everyone has to apply on their own.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I stayed on campus, so I never really struggled for accommodation.
  • I paid around $ 760 monthly for an en-suite on campus.
  • Since my admission process was on time and I looked to stay on campus, I really didn’t struggle with campus accommodation. It was convenient as I wanted an all girls flat and an en-suite so I got whatever I needed.
  • I can advice based on someone's needs and budget. Campus is definitely pricier and if someone is looking to work part-time, then it’s better to stay off campus as it would be cheaper and closer to work. It also depends on one’s course and if they have many classes. Since my course was relaxed, staying off campus also wouldn’t have made a difference.
  • It was a mix. Some Indians stayed on campus and some off campus

Exams

  • For my particular course, no test scores except English proficiency were required. I was exempted from IELTS based on my ranking of undergrad college and scores.
  • Statement of purpose, LOR, CV, school and degree certificates. Since it’s a masters course, it didn’t have any other requirements
  • No, interview wasn’t a part of the admission process for my course at the university.

Fees

  • The total tuition fees was 24, 250 pounds. I had a scholarship of 6000 pounds so it costed me around 18000 pounds for the course. Hostel accommodation was around 8000 pounds.
  • Fees were charged yearly.
  • Campus accommodation was around 800 pounds per month, and my personal expenses on top including food were around 200 pounds monthly. Since it’s a small town, there aren’t any expenses.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I received 6000 pounds for the scholarship and it was based on my good undergrad scores. All students are considered for the scholarship and you don’t need to apply separately for it.
  • 6000 pounds was the scholarship amount.
  • Yes, my batchmates also received scholarships
  • I have no idea but everyone received scholarship amounts based on their profiles and undergrad scores.
