Required Exams for Admission

IELTS (7)

Course Curriculum

10

  • The course was mix of both but the assignments and exams were open book and more of practical rather than theoretical exams.
  • The most positive aspect is the course can be taken by even someone who is from different background as it taught right from the basics.
  • The negative aspect could be that the course sometimes becomes boring if you already know the things and everyone is repeating the same thing.
  • 35-50 as different subjects had different strength as common subject in different courses were taught together.
  • 70% were Indian.

Admission Experience

  • Universities i Applied in :
  1. University of Reading - Confirmed and studied
  2. University of Nottingham - Confirmed
  3. University of Aston - Confirmed
  4. Queens Mary College of London - Accepted
  5. University of Newcastle - Accepted
  6. University of Edinburgh - Rejected (Reason given was my bachelors was in different field)
  7. University of Glasgow - Rejected (Application was full)
  • I saw the course and it has  advance computing along with data analysis. So the subjects were not really only data science but also related to computing. Second reason was I am a Felix scholarship student and was offered fully funded scholarship and so I decided to do my masters from here to avoid loans or financial issues. Also this is a university with was first Reading College in Oxford University, so this was also one reason
  • I applied through their portal and in a week I received an email that they have forwarded an email to the references with the link. They had to either write a reference letter or could attach it in the link. Once both of them had submitted, I received a confirmation email from them and then an accepted letter was sent within 3 days.
  • IELTS is the requirement with 6.5 as required score, but I believe even if you have scored less and selected they give you the option of taking English course or we can give the exam again and confirm our seat.
  • It was very smooth and the admission team was always there to help for any queries.
  • I applied to September 2023 intake as there were many scholarships available for this intake. I was not planning to do masters without any scholarship. I atleast needed a scholarship which will cover my tuition fees.
  • I started preparing quite early. The SOP, LOR took me around two months and application process with confirmation took me another 15 days, however I had to wait for the scholarship results and so it took more 2 months and within next 15 days everything was sorted for me. I would say overall due to scholarship it took me 2 months more but without that the process would have been done in 3 months

Faculty

8

  • For dissertation each professor was advising 4-5 students, so the ratio was 1:4 or 1:5 and it was pretty good. Their were batch professors who you can contact if you have any personal or any issue and it was 1:15
  • Yes, the professors were up-to-date and taught the new methodologies in the market and also the base
  • There is university portal where jobs are posted and you can apply and get a job from there. I worked in University from December to October and it was very helpful
  • I worked with Professor Pat and he is very good with people and lets you decide what you want to do in dissertation. He also comes with strong backup plans with nothing works out.

Campus Life

10

  • 2 Campus- Whiteknight campus and London Road Campus.I studied at white night campus and my graduation ceremony was in London Road campus.
  • There is 8 storey library, every building has a study area, restaurants, cafeteria, study areas, event building, office building, medical college, etc.
  • The major festivals in University are during the new students come in that is welcome week and graduation week, although something or the other is continuously going in university.
  • There are lot of communities and activities but being a master student it is difficult to be a part of them.

Part Time Jobs

  • I was working as Research officer and Energy analyst for all time in university.
  • The pay range was 11.34 pounds(minimum wage) to 19 pounds
  • The other jobs are working as helping agent in the events, working in calling campaigns, email or chat campaigns, working as unibody or on other platforms and working in canteens or restaurants and they get a minimum wage 19 pounds
  • It is comparatively easy to get a job but in calling campaigns or in canteens getting 20 hours shift is difficult, so people do multiple jobs.
  • They earn minimum wage. It is competitive to get part time at the beginning but eventually people do get part time by nov. In university, it is through university portal campjobs however for outside its easier to go around and ask in shops, restaurants, do the trial shift and then they ask you to join. Usually, I haven't heard anyone not getting selected for part time after trial shifts.

Placement

6

  • The placement starts to work after Feb, and people start getting calls. But to be honest UK market is very volatile at the moment and it is difficult to get a job.
  • For freshors it is 25-35k per annum and could go upto 70-80k with experience
  • Linkedin, referrals, indeed are the portals. Also, going to the company website and applying could be one of the way
  • One of my friend got selected for internship. the interview is more of scenario base and not that technical
  • Delloite, JP Morgan, Barclays, HSBC

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I was staying in ensuite room with shared kitchen for 8 people in Sheffield Hall(University accommodation) I applied through university accommodation site and had asked me and my friend to be together and we did get it together.
  • I paid 720 pounds/month and all the bills were included. We had well equipped kitchen with toaster, induction, water boiler, microwave, fridge and oven. Also, the kitchen was cleaned every week and the bins were cleared thrice in every week.
  • Some of the appliances were old and needed to be replaced. So we had to create ticket for the same
  • It was 10 min walk from the university, but there were other accommodations which were nearer but were costly.

Exams

  • IELTS
  • Bachelors certificate, SOP, LOR(need to be submitted through the referral person), CV
  • No, there is no interview process for the admission but I had an interview for the scholarship.
  • The scholarship interview was tough the 8 people from the field were selected very wisely. The questions were tricky and they contradicted every statement I made and judged us how we don't change our minds

Fees

  • I was a scholarship student and did not pay any fees, but there was a friend of mine who paid fees in installments.
  • The staff was very helpful and would make exceptions just in case some financial crises come up.
  • The monthly rent differed from 400 pound to 1200 pounds depending on the time of room you take.
  • There were meal plans as well with 3 meals per week to all meals and the cost varied(I did not opt as I love cooking).
  • The monthly expenses were 150 pounds a month apart from rent for the groceries, travel and basic daily needs.

Scholarship

  • Yes I am a Felix scholarship student that covers everything and would reccomend anyone to apply for it.
  • It was fully funded fees covering my tuition and other fees, flight ticket, arrival and departure expenditure and and monthly stipend of 1400 pounds.
  • Apart from 5 students recieving the felix scholarship, many students did recieve 4000 pounds scholarships
  • 30% of the students recieved the 4000 pounds scholarships
