Course Curriculum

8

  • Well the course curriculum is not that difficult and it is more practical than theoretical. We have 3-day classes in which one day is lecture and the other 2 days we have seminars in which we have group activities, case studies, presentations, role plays, etc., and since we have only assignments, the role of theory is reduced, and our assignments are also really practical. For example, in my first assignment in marketing, I launched a new Coca-Cola product for the UAE market and it’s a really easy-going course as you don’t have to study 4-5 subjects at a time
  • Our course is designed in such a manner that, for example, you have marketing as a subject so you study marketing for 6 weeks, pass that subject and then move on to the next subject so it helps in gaining a deeper understanding of a particular discipline rather than dumping 4-5 different subjects on a student at one time.
  • A few negative things would be that since you don’t have exams, you may not concentrate that much in your studies as there is no fear of examination like we have in India so you may become complacent and not utilise your time. Again, this depends on each and every student and how they choose to use their time and the strictness is quite less in comparison to Indian universities so students are independent and there is no micromanagement.

Admission Experience

  • I was short listed for all the universities I applied to in Dubai. Since I was adamant on doing an MBA, Herriot Watt University did not shortlist me for an MBA as they require 2 years of work experience, and I was eligible for an MSc over there, whereas most of the colleges here allow MBA without any work experience, and since De Monfort University accepted students without work experience, I went for it. A few good universities apart from mine where if you have 2 years of work experience you can apply are Birmingham University and Wollongong University (Dubai), although their fees is a bit on the higher side
  • Firstly, as mentioned above, I was adamant on doing an MBA so since De Monfort University didn't ask for any work experience, I chose it. Plus, the old campus when I joined was a big campus with all sports fields, recreation rooms, canteens, etc., plus the hostel was also inside the university, so there was no need to travel. In comparison to all other universities, their fees is also better and academics i feel are more or less the same in every university What makes the difference is the peer group you have and the exposure you get, which varies from university to university
  • For admission, you have to send all your documents and atleast 3 LORs (could be from university , school or work) and SOP as well Apart from that, if you’ve worked, then certificates to testify and all cbse boards marksheets and college marksheets of each semester, and if a MOI ( Medium of instruction), if your MOI is English, no need to give IELTS, etc
  • No exams are required and if your MOI is English, then there is no need to give IELTS, and 50 percent in boards is minimum requirement for eligibility. If you have good numbers and involved in extracurricular activities, you will get good scholarship, as I had various certificates in sports as well as academics
  • The admission experience was really smooth the POC s were very polite and you could reach to them anytime and they always reply instantly so overall, regarding the admission process, you will not face any issues; it’s really smooth
  • I applied for Jan intake 2024; since it’s a minor intake it’s much calmer, and there is no chaos as there is in September as it’s a major intake and a lot of students come in September. Plus personally, I had just finished my bachelors in 2023 June so I was doing my survey and research for which university to choose so I needed some time as well so I felt the January intake would give more time to decide instead of straight away going in September after college
  • Usually it took 2 months in my case, as I recently renewed my passport. There was some issue on that part but mostly people get it done in one month

Class Schedule

8

  • You just have 3-4 days of classes a week, and as mentioned above, you just study one subject at a time and on Mondays you have a 2-hour class, whereas on Tuesday and Wednesday we have a 3-hour class. All classes for masters are in the evening, 6:30 onwards
  • On average, you have 40–50 students, particularly in an MBA class; for other courses, their may be fewer students.
  • Most students are Indian only 70-80 percent students are Indian and rest you ll have students from Africa, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh Nepal etc

Faculty

8

  • Well, usually there are 40-50 students but they are divided into two sections so roughly around 20-25 students are in each section and you have one professor. Since the classes are split into two sections, all the students are able to voice their opinion, the class is not congested, and it’s easy to understand concepts and interact in the class
  • The teaching methodology is excellent based on case studies and real-life experiences, which give you a better insight into the business world. The content, although not something out of the world and it’s usually the same as what you study at any business institute overall. I feel the way we are taught is really good and since we have seminars, they really help in understanding complex concepts and our assignments are designed beautifully, although in terms of job prospects, I feel the content you learn at your university is not sufficient.
  • Some extra skills that are relevant for the role you're searching for, attending various events and networking are really crucial for securing a job in the UAE.

Campus Life

8

  • 3 campuses: Leicester City, UK Dubai , UAE, Kazakhstan
  • In the campus, you have a cafe and recreation area where you have snooker tables and playstations and then you have a beautiful garden behind the university with the view of skyscrapers and some construction is still going on within the university for sports; they have collaborations with some ground where they have regular matches, competitions, etc. We also have a library and resting area where students can come have a coffee and relax.
  • And since u ll have insurance on a student visa, all the expenses will be paid by the insurance . Just before going, you ll get an insurance card and list that which hospitals are eligible for your insurance . We have student elections as well for various roles and sports competitions as well in the field of volleyball, cricket , basketball , soccer, etc . And you also have cultural events on Eid , Diwali , Valentine’s Day, etc

Part Time Jobs

  • Students in my tenure, especially since my interaction was mostly with business students, were not interested in the teaching positions and looked for opportunities outside the university, although a few students worked for the university and helped them in organising events and onboarding new students so their pay was event to event and for one event they roughly got 7-8 K.
  • For students, you are not allowed to work but still, if you get a job, the company will change your visa and you can work full time. You'll normally get sales and telecalling jobs easily and if you are specialised in any particular industry, then you can get an internship in that field as well. If you have references, it'll help a lot, and constantly applying and attending events is the key.
  • People usually work in proper organisations, and it’s not like the western countries where students work in the US and UK. Normally, students work in McDonald's and department stores. But in Dubai, students usually work in sales and customer service; it’s comparitively easier to get a job in that. You can apply for jobs through LinkedIn, Naukrigulf, Indeed, etc., and attend events. Networking is really important. You should have an ATS resume so that your CV does not get thrown out by the software. Having references helps a lot.

Placement

4

  • Mostly 50 percent students secure jobs and jobs range from 3000 aed to 15000 aed (80000-3.5 lakhs pm)
  • Students can find jobs through LinkedIn, naukri gulf, indeed and attend events, and networking is really important, especially in your specific field. For example, various events in supply chain and AI are organised, so attending those interacting with industry experts will help you a lot.
  • Some major companies where students can get work are Landmark Group, Four Seasons, Al Emad , Numera Marketing, and you could get lucrative offers from real estate companies as real estate is really booming over here. In our campus, we have career fair where various representatives of companies like Qatar airways , IMG World, etc come You can interact with them and get a know-how of the opportunities available

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • Well, my case is a peculiar one since when I joined my university the hostel was within the university and we got subsidised rates since we were De Monfort students but now the university is at a different location so if you're looking for accommodations, the university POCs can guide you, whereas you can also use apps like Dubizzle, but it’s better to take the advice of the college POCs. Since in my case i got my accommodation through the university as both the college and hostel were located adjacent and the university had a collaboration with my accommodation so I had no issues in looking for an accommodation within my budget. Monthly rent was around 30-35 k (as exchange rates keep changing the value in rupee may vary) in dirhams around 1200 dirhams per month and you have to give 2000 aed as deposit which is refundable.
  • For looking for accommodation mine was really good and although now it’s really far from the hostel, they organise a bus which directly picks and drops you at the university. The only negative aspect is that the hostel is on the outskirts, although it ll be best for you to consult the student advice centre before choosing your accommodation
  • Mostly our accommodation has Indian students only and a few Pakistani and chinese students as well but 90 percent of the students are indian.

Exams

  • No exams required; if your MOI is in English, you don’t need to give IELTS, etc
  • SOP, 2-3 LORs and CV plus your CBSE Board examination marksheets and bachelors college marksheets; a minimum 50 percent is eligibility
  • If you have good grades in college and school, then it should not be an issue, but do concentrate on building a proper SOP and LOR, and if you've worked in an NGO, that'll also help in getting a scholarship.

Fees

  • Fees keep changing each year; for me, it's around 59000 AED (around 14 lakhs) for the whole course. You can either pay it fully in one go, then you may get an additional 5 percent of paying in one go. I paid the fees in 4 installments of around 15000 AED, plus you have to pay for insurance and visa deposits. The visa deposit is around 5k AED, which is refundable. So overall, the payment structure is not that complicated. In the case of hostels, it's up to your own choice.
  • For me, it's 2 lakh INR for the whole year for a single room sharing with one go, then you may get an additional 5 percent of paying in one go. I paid the fees in 4 installments of around 15000 AED, plus you have to pay for insurance and visa deposits; the visa deposit is around 5k AED, which is refundable, so overall the payment structure is not that complicated. In the case of paying in one go , I paid the fees in 4 installments of around 15000 Aed and plus you have to pay for insurance and visa deposits , visa deposit is around 5k aed which is refundable.. so overall the payment structure is not that complicated, in case of hostel it’s upto your own choice. For me, it’s 2 lakh inr for the whole year for a single room sharing with one more guy
  • Monthly expenses would be around 30-35k per month if you really are economical.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I received a scholarship of 25 percent. It’s a university scholarship, which they provide based on the candidate's SOP’s LOR’s marks in CBE and college, your resume and all other documents that you provide to the university.
  • Mostly all students get some scholarship but the percentage may vary depending on the students calibre.
  • Typically, a student may receive around 10 percent.
