Austria has officially announced a new education initiative targeting Indian students in engineering and STEM fields. Through a collaboration between TU Wien, TU Graz, and TU Leoben, over 300 Master’s seats and 15 Bachelor’s seats will be offered for the Summer and Winter 2026 intakes. The partnership will streamline applications for eligible Indian students from ANABIN-recognised institutions.

Affordable Education with Global Exposure
Unlike the US, UK, and Australia, Austria’s public universities operate with subsidized tuition, making higher education highly affordable. Students will pay just €726.72 per semester, plus a small union fee of €25.
“Moderate fees do not mean moderate education. Austria treats higher education as a public good, heavily supported by the government,” said Katharina Wieser, Austrian Ambassador to India.
Courses are offered in high-demand areas like:
- Artificial Intelligence & Robotics
- Metallurgy & Circular Engineering
- Biotechnology & Green Chemistry
- Industrial Data Science & Sustainable Technologies

Work Rights & Post-Study Benefits
International students in Austria can work up to 20 hours per week while studying. Upon graduation, students receive a 1-year post-study visa extension to seek employment. Those securing jobs can transition to Austria’s Red-White-Red Card, and potentially to the EU Blue Card, opening work opportunities across the European Union.
Application Process for Indian Students
Applications are managed by VFS Education Services (vfsedu.com). Students must:
- Hold a BE/BTech/BSc (Hons) in a relevant discipline.
- Graduate from an ANABIN-listed Indian institution.
- Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher (approx. 65–70% in India).
- Provide English proficiency proof (IELTS/TOEFL).
Selection Criteria: Grades, English scores, one-to-one assessments, and document verification.

Why Austria is Targeting Indian Students?
Austria is facing a decline in STEM enrollments among European students, creating a growing skills gap. Industries urgently require engineers in areas like renewable energy, AI, and industrial design.
“India offers the right match for our demographic needs and global collaboration goals,” said Ambassador Wieser.
With the US and UK tightening student visa rules, Austria is positioning itself as a safe, affordable, and career-friendly alternative for Indian students.
