Hungary Government Scholarship

The Government of Hungary is providing the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships to over 5,000 international students from 90 countries. The Hungary Government Scholarships are administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Tempus Public Foundation offer a 100% tuition fee waiver with housing expenses, monthly stipends, and annual health insurance worth HUF 65,000 (15,024 INR).

The Hungary Government Scholarships have a duration of two to six years, allowing the candidates to choose a maximum of two courses, and the second preference might be a course in Hungarian or English (Preparatory Level). While it is not obligatory to provide language proficiency scores, having a minimum B2 level of English is necessary. Some institutions might require the students to achieve a 50%-75% score in the online entrance exam.

Hungary Government Scholarships: UG Eligibility Criteria

Prospective students must meet the following entry requirements for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships necessary for increasing the chances of acceptance in undergraduate-level programs, including BA or BSc for two to four years:

  • Minimum 56% in previous examination

Hungary Government Scholarships: Graduate Eligibility Criteria

For postgraduate and PhD level degrees, the applicants must follow these guidelines to improve the possibilities of receiving the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships, holding validity for a minimum of 1.5 to a maximum of 6 years:

  • Hold Bachelor’s or Postgraduate degree
  • Hold citizenship of third-world countries, including India
  • B2 level English language proficiency
  • Completed secondary higher education
  • Age limit: Below 35 years
  • Study gap of 5 years
  • Minimum 56% in previous examination

Application Process

The applicants can register on the Tempus Public Foundation and submit the documents for demonstrating perquisites on the online portal. The host universities will receive the details of the applicants from the Temple Public Foundation and hold online interviews or entrance exams. The universities will send a Letter of Acceptance to the candidates. The TPF will send the scholarship offer letter to the selected candidates. The scholarship process is conducted from September 2024 to February 2025.

Selection Process

The Hungary Government scholarships accept applicants based on academic qualifications with supplementary documents and scores in standardized tests. For the graduate level, work samples are highly preferred by the admission committee. The additional selection criteria are the following:

  • Research proposal

  • Essay (based on the prompts)
  • Certificates in extracurricular activities

Computer Science, Economic Science, Engineering Science, Social Science, and Health Sciences are the courses with the maximum enrolments.
