Whitworth Scholarships

This scholarship opportunity is meant for students enrolling into an undergraduate or postgraduate degree-level engineering course, in any branch of study.

• Applicants must be a British, European Union, or Commonwealth citizen. India is one of the 54 Commonwealth countries.
• For undergraduate study and MSc study (including MEng),
  • applicants must be entering into a College of Further Education/Higher Education or University.
  • applicants must have at least 2 years’ experience pursuing a vocational route in engineering, after completing full-time school-level education and before beginning the degree-level course.
  • applicants must have spent at least 3 years as a resident in the UK before starting the course.
• For postgraduate research,
  • applicants must have just completed a graduate degree in engineering and have been admitted to, or already started a postgraduate research programme.
  • applicants must have spent at least 3 years as a resident in the UK before doing a course at a College of Further Education/Higher Education or University.
  • applicants must have at least 2 years’ experience pursuing a vocational route in engineering, after completing full-time school-level education and before beginning the degree-level course.
• Final year students cannot apply, as the scholarship will be awarded in the next academic year after selection.

A candidate can only receive a maximum of one scholarship at the undergraduate level and at the postgraduate level.

Application forms are to be downloaded from the official Whitworth Scholarships website. There are separate forms for the Scholarship and the Senior Scholarship, and you must confirm eligibility on the website before downloading the form. You will be required to give details of:

• The degree-level course
• Vocational training experience
• Educational history
• Employment history
• Finance
• Referees

The application form has to be filled out and submitted along with documents of proof to Karen Frost, ASK House, IMechE Prizes and Awards, Northgate Avenue, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP32 6BB, or to awards@whitworthscholarships.org.uk.

All applications will receive an acknowledgement with a unique reference number within seven working days.

After going through all the applications, the committee calls shortlisted candidates for an interview, which will usually happen in August.

• If a candidate is called for an interview and cannot attend, there will be no postponing of dates.
• The Institution may provide a reimbursement of upto 100 GBP for travelling expenses.

The candidates are assessed by the Institution and all decisions are made at their discretion.
