Deakin Vice-chancellor’s Meritorious Scholarship program offers a 100% tuition fee waiver to academically excellent Indian students. At the beginning of the academic session, four Deakin Meritorious scholarships are awarded to students pursuing STEM, Sports, Arts and one for any other area at Deakin University. For each program, the committee selects one recipient.

The deadline for this year has expired, try again next year.

As mentioned earlier, the recipients are rewarded with 100% tuition fee waivers for their chosen program. To understand the scholarship’s significance, the tuition fees of these programs are mentioned in the following table:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Deakin Vice-chancellor's Meritorious 100% Scholarship applicants must fulfill all the requirements given below:

  • Citizenship: Only Indian nationals who are residing in India at the time of the application.
  • Scholarship applications must be sent via authorized Deakin agent present in India.
  • Academic requirements to secure admission at Deakin University.

Academic Eligibility Criteria

It is important for each applicant to meet the following academic requirements established for the Deakin Vice-chancellor's Meritorious Scholarship:

  • For UG, an overall score of 85% is required in class 12 CBSE/ ICSE / State Board; OR
  • 10 overall in the General Certificate of Secondary Education exam.
  • A score of 32 in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is required.
  • For PG, an overall score of 80% in UG degree is required.

Apart from these requirements, there is a minimum English language capability for every course. The applicant must fulfill that depending on what course they choose.


Application Process

The application process of Deakin Vice-chancellor's Meritorious Scholarship is quite flexible. Students may or may not choose to submit a separate scholarship application form.

Eligible applicants will be automatically considered for the scholarship based on their Deakin University admission application form. those who choose to submit an application must do so at least one month prior to the commencement of the academic session.

However, all applicants need to provide some supporting documents. Assessment of these documents will highly factor in the selection process.

Student Supporting Documentation

The supporting documents are required for the assessment of Deakin Vice-chancellor’s Meritorious 100% Scholarship 2020 are:

  • A statement of purpose or personal statement, approximately 300 words.
  • At least two references or letters of recommendation.
  • Deakin admission application along with the academic transcripts.

The personal statement must be written by the applicant only and should reflect the applicant’s personal views. Overall, the statement must include

  • Details of any previous work experience or extracurricular activity.
  • Brief description of why the applicant wants to study in Australia and specifically Deakin University
  • The reason why the applicant can become an outstanding ambassador for Deakin University.

Selection Process

Upon receiving all applications and supporting documents, the Deakin University officials will start evaluating each scholarship applicant. Students will be informed about the outcome of the selection process in due time.

As per the requirements, shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend an interview as a part of the selection process. In that case, the final decision will be based on the applicant’s interview session.


Grant Details

Since its launch in 2014, 23 Indian students have received Deakin Vice-chancellor's Meritorious 100% Scholarship. The benefits of this scholarship program include,

  • 100% of the total indicative tuition fee stated on the Letter of Offer.
  • Priority place for on-campus accommodation (at own cost and subject to availability).

The scholarships in selected academic areas (STEM, Sports, Arts, and one other area) are offered in recognition by an industry partner – BIOCON for STEM and Rajasthan Royals for Sports.
