Eligibility Criteria

Applicants of the Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Apply for a PhD at the University of Warwick to begin in October 2023; or
  • Be currently enrolled in the first year of a PhD or MPhil/PhD at the University of Warwick;
  • Be assessed as 'overseas' for fees purposes. There are no other nationality criteria;
  • Be from any discipline at Warwick.

Applicants must note that the Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship cannot be deferred to the next academic year. Therefore, applicants planning to commence their program in 2023 should only apply for the scholarship.


Application Process

The university has specific guidelines for the application procedure for Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship.

Once the applicants have received conditional/unconditional offer of admission to the University of Warwick, they must complete their applications for the scholarship program.

The step-by-step application process for Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship is given below:

Applicants must note that the scholarship form consists of three questions, which each applicant must answer. The questions are:

  • Describe yourself in 300 words.
    • Do mention your publications and if you have received any accolades for the same.
    • This may cover your academic progress, your skills, strengths and expertise, and also about the professional journey you had while pursuing the subject
  • Explain your project and engagement with the subject in 300 words.
    • In this, you must highlight your interest in the chosen subject area for the research.
    • You must include your inspiration/influence and previous works.
  • Summary of the research project in 500 words.
    • Focus on the outline of your research project, your plan of action, time period, etc.

Selection Process

The selection process for Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship is well-defined by the university.

Each department is asked to nominate their strongest applications and provide the officials with a nomination statement. This statement will

  • contextualize the candidate’s application and references.
  • outline the candidate’s strength and suitability with the department.

Due to the limited number of Warwick scholarships available, every department is allocated a fixed number of nominations.

The final decision of Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship recipients will be made by each faculty. Within every faculty, there are a number of independent Faculty Assessors.

All the applicants will be informed of the result, on their scholarship application, by email by start of March 2023. However, international applicants are advised to start their UK Tier 4 visa process by then.


Grant Details

To study abroad and pursue a PhD degree from a globally recognized university is generally on everyone’s wish list. Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship, awarded by the University of Warwick, provides this opportunity to international students.

Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship is for the applicants applying for a Ph.D., irrespective of their discipline, for the Autumn 2020 term. The grant covers the payment of tuition fees and also provides maintenance stipend to the for full-time applicants.

  • The scholarship will cover full payment of tuition fees up to £24,010.
  • The scholarship is applicable to all disciplines of doctorate.
  • The awardee will also be provided with provisional maintenance of £15,239 to full-time holders (2023-24 applicants).
  • The length of funding is 3.5 years. but if you have already started the first year of study, the funding duration will be reduced accordingly.
  • The scholarship is provided to overseas applicants and no particular nationalities.
