Remarks
I had applied for Microbiology at SRM Chennai, DU, and Saraswati Vidyapeeth for the same. But I have always wanted to go for something different and my love and skills for art and travel got me landed at NIFT Bhubaneswar. I had enrolled myself in Fashion Communication because of the vast opportunities it had to offer. Fashion Communication is an integrated course of multiple courses ultimately leading up to teach us how to put up a brand and how to execute its advertising and branding so well that it excels out in the market for the public good. The first year is the mixture of all courses and all the students study together in different sections regardless of their departments. The main department course study begins in the second year. The college provides endless opportunities to grow and not just in academics but as a person and it also prepares the students for the industry they're going to work into. The college provides internship programs and placements as well for the students.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum for the 2nd year, that is, the first year in the department, involves the study of various topics such as semiotics, photography, visual merchandising, etc. The exams are held in the form of juries at the end of each semester. then are also General elective subjects to enhance co-curriculum activities. The 2nd year in the department, that is, 3rd year involves deepening specialization, it's an addition to the main curriculum for students to have specialization in a particular subject alongside IDM(Interdisciplinary Minor) subjects to give students a direction of where they're heading towards. There they have this segregation of deepening subjects journalism (mass media), and Visual Communication. The end of the 6th semester involves a summer internship program followed by a Graduation project to be done with a company that also allows students to get pre-placement opportunities(PPO) and further placements if not taken the PPO marking the end of the college academics.
Internships Opportunities
Puma, Pantaloons, Fab India, Vogue, Street Style Store, and UN Women India are some of the companies which have been selecting students for internships with Rs. 0-20000 as stipend. Various departments involve a variety of projects such as Graphic Design asks one to make brochures, social media creatives, etc., content writers, marketing management, marketing strategist, Photography, and cinematography are different sections where students opt for their internships. The outcomes involve ultimately branding and marketing of the company or projects.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for the CPUs placements after their graduation projects in the 8th semester. Most of the students take Pre-placement opportunities (PPO) from the respective companies they've been doing their Graduation Projects with only and the rest are allowed to go for Placement interviews. It all depends upon the skillset they have and their portfolios. The average package goes for about 6-15 lakh per annum. 7 out of 10 students get placed every year. Most of the students go for jobs for the first 2 years and then look for masters while others do masters right after their graduation from reputed universities and then begin their career. But NIFT provides enough facilities and opportunities to explore and grow as a person as well as industry visualization.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
For the first semester, it was 1,37,000 INR for students other than NRI for classrooms, activity halls, gym, library, and tuition fees. The social life is amazing, the curriculum and the social life leave no room for rest and time waste. One gets to learn so much which enriches their mind to not just remain who they were but to become the far better version of it. There are faculties like friends, friends who become family and so much more like fests, intercollege competition, that is, Converge. Registration for hostel begins after counseling, hostel fees are to be submitted at the college's administration and get the respective receipt. The entry time in the college is 8 pm but the entry time for the hostel is 10 pm, till then students are allowed to explore the campus.
