XIM Bhubaneswar's Concludes Day 3 of Business Excellence Summit 2022

New Delhi: Xavier Institute of Management (XIM) Bhubaneswar has successfully concluded the last day, i.e, the 3rd day of its 4th edition of the annual Business Excellence Summit 2022, which was held on the campus ground from September 29 to October 1, 2022.

This year, the theme of the 4th edition of the annual Business Excellence Summit at XIM Bhubaneswar' was Transcending Boundaries.

On Day 3 of the Business Excellence Summit 2022, Mr. Vivek Atray, an ex-IAS, gave the opening keynote address. He spoke about "IQ and EQ in the Corporate World" and stressed that "Your IQ & EQ have to be high enough to understand the bigger picture." 

He shared three stories, each of which provided wisdom on how to maintain equilibrium and composure under pressure. In addition, he advised the students to be mindful of their surroundings before speaking, as they would soon be young professionals entering the workforce.

In a brief discussion, he explained that while criticising someone in private is considered humiliation, praising them in public is not. Finally, he concluded by saying, "If happiness is the aim of life, then where is the enjoyment if I go a week without grinning? To feel good about oneself is the goal." 

Speaking on the "Magic of Mindful Leadership," Sharbani Sengupta, Vice President of Customer Service at DHL Express, made a presentation. 

She began by speaking about DHL and the different steps they would take to achieve zero net emissions by 2050. She shared the entries in her dateless journal where she underlined the importance of constantly having positive energy. 

She has participated in numerous mindfulness and meditation classes. She asserted, "What makes you successful is being in a zone of mindfulness and high vitality. You'll learn things that will enable you to change the world." 

Sengupta instructed the students to meditate for a few minutes while keeping their eyes closed. As she concluded the presentation, she shared a personal account of how meditation impacted her life.

The session with Mr. Rohit Kilam, CTO at CMS Info Systems, the largest cash management company in India and the fourth-largest in the world. 

Mr. Rohit Kilam is a multipotentiality leader who has served as CIO and CTO for a number of businesses in the field of IT strategy and consulting. He described how any startup's approach starts with recognising the problem, trying to solve it utilising creativity and new methodologies, constructing the answer in an original way, and quickly growing up the organisation.

Emphasizing how quickly the world has transitioned from the physical to the digital and how new age businesses are leveraging this transition by using examples from Nykaa, Zomato, and Zerodha, Kilam also highlighted how India is a global leader in the financial industry and is about to export its fintech technologies to the rest of the world. 

Discussing how the government is promoting the development and formalisation of the Indian economy through a number of initiatives, he ended his talk by engaging the students in a discussion of post-covid questions for managers. 

Further, he concluded by explaining how businesses develop their products, the shortcomings of Indian startups, and the crucial role that women entrepreneurs have in the ecosystem.

The managing director of Group G, Mr. Ashish Garg, began his speech with a story about his modest upbringing, where they led a simple life while having plenty of money. He said that the teaching, "It's not about the fish, it's about the art of fishing," sparked his sense of initiative and contributed to his success.

This was handed down to him by his ancestors through many years, proving that inheriting money doesn't necessarily bring happiness. Instead, the hustle and the art of fishing provides true satisfaction. 

He parted his speech by sharing some insightful thoughts, that "Simplicity promotes goodwill, and goodwill generates profit,and therefore, simplicity triumphs over cunning. It is not necessary to be cunning to run a successful business." 

The next speaker was Dr. Swatee Sarangi, Global Generics India HR Head at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, is a renowned speaker with an extensive experience in leadership development, consulting, research, teaching, and driving strategic HR practises. She gave a presentation on "Thriving Through Innovation."

She introduced the phrases "thriving" and "innovation" at the beginning of the session and stated that in order to flourish, one must innovate, and that in order to innovate, one must think creatively and seek beyond conventional ways of perceiving the world. 

Sarangi said that "Innovation is not a fad," after briefly discussing the mentality, skill set, and culture that drive Innovation. An individual shouldn't just dive in because everyone else is, they must act because they are convinced that their innovations will improve society and address pressing issues. 

The session concluded with a motivating message to adopt a divergent thought process, permit failure, and learn from these failures.

Mr. Shailesh Paul, Vice President of VISA, who is currently in charge of the merchant sales and acquisition division for the India and South Asian region, gave the final speech of the day. 

The subject of his talk was "Changing the paradigm of the payment structure in the country". He began by discussing his own personal career-related experiences of growth. 

Later, he went into great depth on the work VISA undertakes and how it has contributed to altering how payments are processed globally. Speaking about the payment system's future, the session concluded with a lively Q&A session. 

Utsav Chirimar, the general secretary of the student executive council, delivered the last valedictory address. 

Starting with the administration, Rev. Fr. Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Registrar, Rev. Fr. Deputy Registrar, and the Dean, he expressed gratitude to all the stakeholders involved in organising Business Excellence Summit 2022 for the chance to host the flagship event of XIM, Bhubaneswar. 

The grandeur of the occasion was acknowledged by his remark that "when you get the chance, you re energize and do something better." 

Thanking the sponsors and the media partners for their cooperation for the Business Excellence Summit 2022, he conveyed his sincere gratitude to all the speakers who attended the occasion and offered their insightful perspectives with the students.
