NMAT 2020 Exam Pattern

NMAT conducted by GMAC for different NMIMS campuses across India. Some other prestigious institutions also accept this score.

NMAT has become a Computer Adaptive Test. So a high- scoring candidate receives a more difficult sample of questions than a low- scoring candidate does. There's a penalty for unanswered questions. Also, there are sectional cut-offs and an overall cut-off.

There are 3 aspects to preparation: Concept preparation, regular practice, Test-taking, and analysis. The exam is for the duration of 60 minutes, 1 mark for a correct answer, 25% negative marking for a wrong answer.
Both these exams are now speed based tests; hence your speed and accuracy need to be balanced. You must tailor your preparation accordingly.

SNAP 2020: Content Preparation

General English / Language Skills: This section contains questions from Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary and Para Jumbles. In order to do this, we suggest that you spend about 30-45 minutes reading through themes every day.

Not only will this improve your reading speed and vocabulary, but it will also boost your language instincts, helping you in Grammar. Families of vocabulary, etymology and Word could be used.

As SNAP focuses a lot on Vocabulary and Grammar basics, you could also work on Speech Figures, Homophones, Homonyms, Idioms and Phrases, Punctuations, etc. Apart from that, you can practise questions on a regular basis across these areas. For Para Jumbles, try to get the answer by eliminating the options as it's faster.

Quantitative Skills: For some students, this section may be a nightmare. But here's a pattern. A lot of the questions are arithmetic-based and come from topics such as Percentages, Ratio Proportion, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Probability, etc.

Questions from Geometry and Measurement, 2-3 sets of Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency can also be expected. NMAT, along with these, deals with Algebra questions: simple and quadratic equations.

So please make sure you practise these subjects on a regular basis. You can learn Speed Maths to improve speed. Make sure you remember squares up to 30, cubes up to 15, and Reciprocals up to 1/20.

Logical Reasoning: This section includes Linear and Circular Arrangements, Coding and Decoding, Blood Relationships, Venn Diagrams, Sense of Direction, Number and Letter Series, Verbal and Critical Reasoning, etc. In addition to these, SNAP addresses Clocks, Calendars, Symbols and Notations, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Please make sure you practise this on a regular basis.

As you prepare, divide your task into daily schedules so that it doesn't seem insurmountable. Please focus on the quality of the study, not the number of hours spent studying.

SNAP 2020: Mock Tests Play an Important Role

Speed and precision. Then you could take steps on the basis of where you find yourself missing. You need to practise more to improve speed. To increase accuracy, you need to revisit and strengthen the basic concepts.

For NMAT, make sure you don't leave questions unanswered and don't waste too much time on one issue, you need to score high across sections. In SNAP, since there are no sectional time limits, decide the time you assign to each section and stick to it.
