The Master of Antarctic Studies (MAST) at the University of Canterbury is a unique, 180-point, one-year full-time program designed for students with a strong academic background in a related field and a passion for Antarctic research. Offered through Gateway Antarctica, UC’s dedicated Antarctic research centre, this program begins with immersive summer courses and includes the Postgraduate Certificate in Antarctic Studies. Students engage deeply with Antarctic science, policy, and environmental issues through coursework and a dissertation, supported by collaborations with Antarctica New Zealand and other key partners. With a focus on interdisciplinary research and applied knowledge, the MAST prepares graduates for impactful careers in science, environmental policy, and research related to Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Entry is competitive and requires a relevant postgraduate qualification, strong academic performance, and English language proficiency. University of Canterbury accepts almost all English proficiency exams, such as IELTS,TOEFL and PTE for international students admission. Indian students with excellent scores are eligible for the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships offers full tuition, living expenses, and travel costs.
