What Students Say
Likes
- Hands on approach: strong emphasis on practical, research based learning and real world problem solving
- International exposure that encourages collaboration and cultural exchange
- Excellent support from faculty and academic staff
Dislikes
- -You have to be a lot independent in your studies
- Limited feedback during some courses because of large class size
- Dutch language is a must if you want to work after
Course Curriculum
- Msc construction management and engineering is very rigorous and blends theory with practical with case studies group projects and industry collaborations.
- Workload is intense but highly rewarding. Usually 2-3 classes per day from 9:00 am till the evening. The batch is international; nearly 50 per cent of the class was international. 10 people were from India in my programme.
Admission Experience
-
I applied to the following universities:
- Applied to : University of Stuttgart, TU Berlin,& TU Delft
- Status: admitted to TU Delft, Stuttgart
- Rejection: none, didn’t apply after getting accepted into TU Delft as it had the strongest alignment with my academic background and research interests in civil engineering
- Waitlisted for TU Berlin
- Possibly due to high competitive nature of the program
- I chose TU Delft over others because of the institution’s very high ranking in civil engineering
- The admission process involved submitting online application with academic transcripts, motivation letter, letters of recommendation, proof of English proficiency (IELTS>6.5), and a CV
- Previous education grade should be 75-80% and higher; IELTS overall score should be greater than 6.5 with all individual scores to be greater than or equal to 6.5
- Admission process was smooth if you prepare all the documents as per the requirements
- I applied for the fall intake starting from September 2023 because that is the most popular intake. Also, I like the season more
- Admission process was, I guess, four to five months, including waiting time. Then visa process, accommodation, paying fees, etc.
Faculty
- I guess the ratio is about 1:15 .
- Allows for meaningful interaction and personalised guidance. Professors are highly experienced researchers and professionals. Methodology emphasises project-based learning, case studies and collaboration with companies. Professors don't directly place students. We have to attend job fairs on our own and look for internships, graduation projects and jobs
Campus Life
-
Faculties-
- Civil Engineering and Geoscience
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science
- Architecture
- Aerospace
- Industrial Design Engineering
- Technology and Policy Management
- Then we have TU Delft Aula (Library), Sports Centre (X)
- Many student associations and clubs are there like study associations, energy clubs, etc.
Part Time Jobs
- Well, for each course only two or a maximum of three students can be TAs
- Only one can become Department assistant
- Not sure (minimum wage is 17 euro per hour). Research training or other positions are also there
- Maximum is 8 hours per week as far as I know
- Pretty hard; networking is key. Have to attend many job fairs and other mixers to get in touch with profs and industry experts
- Most students work part-time on or near campus. Common roles include TAs, RAs and DAs. Many students also work in restaurants, supermarkets and delivery services in Delft or nearby cities. Students typically earn between 15-17 euros per hour depending on the role and nature of their jobs. The process usually involves searching for openings on platforms like TU delft’s career portal, Linkedin, or student sites.
Placement
- Most graduates from Construction Management and Engineering secure jobs within 3-6 months after graduating.
- Average starting salary is 2800-3500 euros monthly (can fluctuate). graduates who continue in consultancy or research positions may earn slightly less initially, while those in private construction or engineering sectors may start higher.
- Most students find jobs through internships completed during the thesis phase, networking and referrals from supervisors.
Accommodation
- Couldn’t find accommodation through the university, so looked for accommodation outside with other indians through whatsapp groups.
- Found accommodation from websites like housinganywhere.
- Monthly rent is about 850 including electricity bills water bills, and wifi
- Have to pay tax separately
- A lot of scammers out there, so never pay upfront before signing the contract
Exams
- Exams required are IELTS/TOEFL; GRE is not mandatory for mist Mac programmes.
- Necessary documentation – SOP, CV, Letters of recommendation, academic transcripts, Bachelor degree certificate – uploaded via the online portal studielink
- No interview necessary
Fees
- The fee structure is provided on the university’s website clearly. Around 21,000 euros per year for non-EU students. Extra 12,000 euros per year for accommodation if taken from university
- The fee is charged for the entire academic year. There is also option to pay in instalments (9 instalments)
- Estimated expenses: 120 - groceries
- 850- rent
- Transportation- 150
- Miscellaneous- 200
Scholarship
- I didn’t receive any scholarship
- Available: Justus & louise van effen scholarship - all msc programs
- Faculty scholarship for the microelectronics msc program in electrical engineering track
- Qutech scholarship – quantum information science and technology – applied physics, computer science, electrical engineering
- Requirements regarding GPA (80% or higher)
