Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- The reason I have chosen UCD over other colleges is because of its academic reputation and its employability. Since the UK's economy wasn't doing well that time, it was hard to get a job in the UK, but on the other hand, specifically UCD students from business analytics courses were getting jobs. There was a 100% placement record in my course during that time, and also getting PR is also easy in Ireland. If you come under the critical skill list.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- Getting into warwick is very competitive. There was no specific reason given for my rejection.
- I would always encourage you to always apply to multiple universities, as some or the other university might reject you because of the high competition.

Tips to enhance your application
- My consultant suggested I keep it real and not fake myself just to get into the university. Because if you fake yourself and get admission, you might not get the university environment according to your character traits.
Admission Experience
- The reason I have chosen Smurfit is because of its great academic reputation. Globally for MSc Business Analytics, it comes under the top 50 colleges worldwide. Furthermore, as it is situated in Dublin, which is the European HQ for big companies like Google, Microsoft, etc.
- Also, at the time of the interview, I found out most of the interviewees were from UCD, which made me realise that employers prefer UCD over other universities in Ireland.
- Fields like healthcare, IT, and data analytics are the promising fields here, and there is a 70-80% chance that if you choose your course and college wisely, you will land a job and always go for top-ranked universities; otherwise, I saw people struggling to get a job. Overall, my experience at UCD was great, and I have no complaints, to be honest. It was too good to be true kind of experience for me.
Class Schedule
10
- For us in trimesters 1 and 2, we used to have class every weekday from 9 to 2:30 for the morning batch and from 3:30 to 7 for the evening. The strength of the class was around 120-130 students, out of which 80-90 were Indian, as it was a bit technical and mostly European or white people in general don't choose technical courses much. In technical courses, you will find mostly Indians, Chinese, and a few Europeans. Mostly in a week, you have to spend like 48-72 hours on assignments and coursework.
Faculty
10
- The faculty members were very knowledgeable, and all were PhD holders, with so many research papers being published globally. They will try to help you in every way possible and will give you time after class as well to solve your queries.
- My favorite faculty was my statistics professor, as his way of teaching was similar to our Indian system, as he was from India too. He always used to make sure that each and every student was on the same page. Faculties can help you get TA and RA full-time roles. That's what I have seen during my time on campus.
Campus Life
10
- My college has 2 campuses, one in Belfield for engineering and other courses and one in Blackrock for mainly graduate business studies. The Blackrock campus is smaller than the Belfield one, and also the Belfield campus is very beautiful and modern as well. whereas the Blackrock campus is more traditional and will remind you about European architecture.
- Both the campuses have a huge library, host career events, have free breakfast during exam time, movie nights on campus, hiking trips, and have football, cricket, a gym, hockey, badminton, basketball, etc. If you have an interest in any sports, you can join their clubs.
Part Time Jobs
- I have seen most Indians prefer working as a retail and store assistant, which is physically very tiring. Each shift is 8 hours with 30 minutes of break, but for 7:30 minutes continuously, you have to be on your feet.
- Getting these jobs or part-time jobs in general is easy to get in Ireland. Mostly, you have to apply online, but for cafes and restaurants, you have to submit your CV offline, and then you get a call back if you get selected.
- TA/RA/DA roles are usually higher-ranking students get (mostly 5-10 students in a class), and hourly wages can be around 25-30 euros/hour. Other part-time opportunities on campus are retail assistant, student union leader, and barista, and mostly wages for these would be around 14.5-16 euros/hour.
- If you talk off-campus, corporate security part-times are the best because mostly you have to work in corporations, and all you have to do is sit at reception and assign access cards to employees if they have forgotten them at home, and if you don't have any work, you can use that time to do your assignments (this is the part-time I was doing), and you earn 16-25 euros/hour in security roles. For all the above roles, you can only work 20 hours/week as a student and during holidays, 40 hours.
Placement
10
- It's been 6 months since my course was completed, and almost 75-85% of my classmates have secured jobs.
- The average salary ranges from 38,000 to 50,000 euros/year. They typically find jobs on GradIreland if you are a fresher or on LinkedIn for freshers as well as experienced. The highest I have seen is for 70,000 euros/year for a person holding 7 years of experience, and the least was 35,000 euros/year for a fresher.
Accommodation
Off Campus
10
- You can apply online on your university website or you can use Facebook Marketplace, but beware, as scams happen on Facebook. There are multiple WhatsApp groups as well where people offer short-term or long-term accommodations. But according to my experience, in the initial days, always book student accommodation, as finding homes from India would be difficult or your housemates might not be according to your liking and you might end up shifting multiple times.
- Few websites for student accommodations are aparto, nido, hugo, point campus (these are the off-campus student accommodation slightly on higher side.)
