What Students Say
Likes
- The primary reason to come to Konstanz was due to the courses and the professors of the computer science department. Although, location is also a plus point to come here :D.
- Faculty which as I mentioned is very good.
- Location: Very beautiful. Lots of things to do.
Dislikes
- The location is good, but the city is small. This has its own benefits, but companies are fewer so a little fewer opportunity for part-time jobs as compared to Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, etc.
Required Exams for Admission
Overall experience is very good. As I heard the Universities in Germany have very high quality of education, that is very true. Love the professors here. Doing a research assistant job too which covers my living expenses and the professor is also very good. No excess work pressure. Another thing is the location, which is very beautiful.
Course Curriculum
Very good. All courses are heavily research-oriented. Hence, the courses are very up to date. But for industry exposure, there are Applied Science universities in Germany (there is 1 in Konstanz too). The Universities are focused on research only.
Faculty
1) Student-to-teacher ratio depends on the course. In general, it is very good at about 1:10 or 1:15. But few courses have large numbers of students like Machine Learning which can have 1:75. But since the courses are hard the number of students reduces quickly. 2) Faculty and Staff and excellent. Very good in their fields and passionate about teaching. 3) They are very well-versed and approachable, but few professors with big labs might not have the time to talk to everyone. But in the courses, you can take as much time as you want to talk to the professors. 4) Sabine Storandt. She works in algorithms, the area of research I want to work in. Also, i mentioned her in the SOP.
Campus Life
1) There are a lot of clubs and parties. There are clubs for a lot of interests such as Cycling, Anime, Gardening, International affairs, theater, etc. 2) Research facilities are good. The university is well-funded. 3) 2 big libraries. Lots of books. Very quiet. 4) University-wide Wi-Fi. 5) Sports facilities are good: Athletics, sailing, boating, badminton, basketball, etc. Gym is paid: 29 EUR/Month.
Placement
There is no process of campus placements. It depends on the individuals to find a job. Mostly computer science students with skills get good jobs, but this is not specific to the university. It is generally true for most German universities.
Accommodation
There are university accommodations but are hard to get. Other student dorms also exist. The one I am living in is very good at just 300 EUR/Month. Average rent is generally higher at about 450 EUR/month.
Exams
My Score: GRE: 168 in Quant and 151 in Verbal. TOEFL: 102/120. None other exam was given. I have no German language skills. Submitted all 3. CV: Work experience, achievements, and projects. SOP: Prof I wanted to work with and the specialization I wanted to do, some research publications I read by the professor. LOR: 1) From a college teacher 2) From my manager
