University of Regina Diploma Computer Science Admission
Admission to the Diploma in Computer Science follows the standard Faculty of Science route for international undergraduates. Indian applicants need Class XII with strong Math plus a valid English proficiency test score.
Intakes and International Deadlines
The Diploma in Computer Science runs three intakes per year, with international deadlines set six weeks before the term start.
| Intake | International Deadline | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Fall (September) 2026 | 15 August 2026 | Open |
| Winter (January) 2027 | 15 December 2026 | Open |
| Spring/Summer (May) 2027 | 15 April 2027 | Not Yet Open |
- Fall is the primary intake and carries the largest scholarship pool for Diploma tier awards.
- Winter admits use the same academic and English criteria as Fall applicants.
- Spring/Summer suits students already in Canada on a study permit rather than fresh Indian applicants.
Academic Eligibility for Indian Applicants
The Faculty of Science expects a competitive Class XII record with Mathematics as a compulsory subject. WES or an equivalent credential evaluator sets the official Indian-to-Canadian conversion.
| Requirement | University Standard | Indian Applicant Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Class XII completion | Recognised board pass | CBSE, ICSE or State board accepted after WES review |
| Academic average | 70% on best five academic subjects | Approximately 70% aggregate or CGPA 7.0 on a 10-point scale |
| Mathematics | Class XII Mathematics required | Standard Math preferred over Applied or Basic Math |
| Diploma progression GPA (post-admission) | 65% Program GPA and 65% Major GPA | Approximately 65% average or CGPA 6.5 on 10 for graduation |
- WES (World Education Services) sets the official Indian-to-Canadian grade equivalence for applications.
- Applicants with 60% or 60% to 69% in Class XII should apply for the Winter 2027 intake and add English test retakes to strengthen the file.
- Repeat Math XII if the score fell below 60% before applying to the CS diploma.
The University of Regina overall ranking sits at QS World Rankings 2027 #1001-1200 and THE World Rankings 2026 #801-1000, with no discrete Computer Science subject listing across QS, THE, ARWU or US News at present.
English Language Proficiency Requirements
Every accepted English test carries a component minimum, not just an overall score. Indian applicants should aim well above the floor to strengthen the study permit case.
| Test | Minimum Overall | Per-Component Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 | No band below 5.0 |
| TOEFL iBT (0 to 120 scale) | 80 | Reading 19, Listening 19, Speaking 18, Writing 18 |
| TOEFL PBT | 550 | Not specified by university |
| PTE Academic | 59 | Not specified by university |
| Duolingo English Test | 110 | Not specified by university |
Note: TOEFL iBT moved to a 1.0 to 6.0 band scale on 21 January 2026. University of Regina currently lists the 0 to 120 requirement shown above; both scales are reported during the 2026 to 2028 transition. Verify the current requirement on the official admissions page before applying.
- Indian applicants gain the fastest processing with IELTS since VFS slots are widely available across Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities.
- Speaking 18 on TOEFL iBT is the hidden barrier for many Indian test-takers, so schedule at least one mock speaking round before booking.
- Duolingo works for offer letters but many visa officers still prefer IELTS or TOEFL evidence attached to the study permit file.
Tip for Indian students: Filing before end June for Fall 2026 gives WES verification and study-permit processing full runway. A weak Class XII Math grade sinks CS diploma applications faster than a low IELTS band.
University of Regina Diploma Computer Science Application
The Diploma in Computer Science uses the standard U of R international undergraduate application, submitted online through the applicant portal. Only Class XII grades, an English test and a passport copy are needed at the initial submission stage.
Application Steps for the Fall 2026 Cycle
Regina keeps the process linear and portal-driven, without interviews or writing tests for the diploma. Applicants pay a single non-refundable fee, upload documents and track status inside the portal.
- Create an applicant portal account and select Diploma in Computer Science under the Faculty of Science.
- Upload Class XII and Class X transcripts along with the English test score report.
- Pay the CAD 100 (INR 6,656) application fee via credit card or Flywire inside the portal.
- Submit the CAD 1,000 (INR 66,560) enrolment deposit once the conditional offer letter arrives.
Documents Checklist
Indian applicants should have the following ready before starting the portal application. WES verification runs in parallel and can take four to eight weeks.
- Class X and Class XII marksheets from CBSE, ICSE or a State board, with passing certificates.
- Valid English proficiency score: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 59 or Duolingo 110.
- Passport bio-page copy valid at least one year past the intake start date.
- WES or IQAS credential evaluation for admission and later scholarship consideration.
Forward-Looking Application Timeline
The table below covers the current and next two intakes for planning purposes. Cycles fully closed are dropped from the list.
| Intake | Expected Deadline | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Fall 2026 (September start) | 15 August 2026 | Open |
| Winter 2027 (January start) | 15 December 2026 | Open |
| Spring/Summer 2027 (May start) | 15 April 2027 | Expected |

University of Regina Diploma Computer Science Scholarships
International diploma applicants at Regina are automatically considered for entrance awards based on Class XII average. No separate scholarship application is required for the two headline awards below.
Automatic Awards for Diploma Applicants
Two awards specifically flow to Diploma in Computer Science students. Others in the university’s scholarship suite target four-year bachelor’s admissions and do not apply to the diploma pathway.
| Scholarship | Value (CAD) | Value (INR) | Eligibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Entrance Scholarship | CAD 3,000 | INR 1.99 Lakhs | 85% Class XII admission average |
| International Student of Distinction: Diploma | CAD 20,000 over 2 years | INR 13.31 Lakhs over 2 years | 90% Class XII average, Fall intake, apply by 30 April |
- The Entrance Scholarship pays out as either tuition credit or on-campus housing credit, at the student’s choice.
- The Diploma award covers on-campus housing and meal plan value across the two-year program.
- Diploma award renewal requires 30 credit hours completed in year one and an 80% UGPA in the first year of study.
What Does Not Apply
Regina’s larger Tier 1 (CAD 80,000) and Tier 2 (CAD 40,000) Student of Distinction awards are reserved for four-year bachelor’s admits. The International Undergraduate Student Bursary (CAD 20,000 tuition credit) also requires a four-year degree admission.
- Diploma applicants planning the Post-Diploma BSc laddering pathway become eligible for these larger awards only on the BSc admission cycle.
- The Regina bursary needs a two-year tuition deposit upfront, a barrier most Indian families avoid at the diploma stage.
- External scholarships from IIE, QS-India and Fulbright do not typically cover Canadian diplomas below the bachelor’s level.
Contact the University of Regina international office before 30 April to confirm Diploma-tier scholarship eligibility if the Class XII average is a conditional predicted grade.
Scholarship reality: The realistic aid a diploma applicant secures is CAD 3,000 (INR 1.99 Lakhs) unless the Class XII average clears 90% for the Diploma of Distinction award. Aid never covers full tuition at the diploma level, so budget the CAD 65,000 (INR 43.26 Lakhs) tuition in full.

Visa reality: India’s Canada study-permit refusal rate climbed to 81% in December 2024 and remains elevated in 2026. Genuine study intent, verifiable funds and a stable Class XII record decide the outcome more than the diploma versus bachelor’s choice.
Regina’s Diploma in Computer Science fits Indian students seeking a PGWP-eligible tech entry into Canada at a mid-band budget. It especially suits candidates planning to ladder into the university’s Post-Diploma BSc for a full software engineer track. - It was a reputed one and offered a variety of programs. Had heard a lot about it.
Campus life and acedemics and great. The institution has every tool, equipment and source to educate its students. The university has never been short of anything. I have never experienced fund deficiency in anything by the university in my entire student life. It is a great platform for students to learn and explore their fields of study. But as I said the university needs to look into some of its professors and deal with their racist and egoistic approach.
