The professional profile of the M.Sc. program in Geology and Geological Engineering first trains the student for the job market in geoscience and geological engineering
It can also lead the student to doctoral studies.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM
It aims to acquire specific knowledge in applied geology in order to enable students to develop advanced skills in mineral exploration.
The training enables the student to:
- to acquire advanced knowledge in mining exploration;
- develop critical thinking and mastery of new concepts in mining exploration;
- to acquire skills more specific to professional practice.
The duration of the program is normally 3 terms (fall, winter and summer). The student begins in the fall term and ends in the summer term.
The maximum duration of a master's program is nine (9) terms full-time and fifteen (15) terms part-time .
An internship is scheduled for the third quarter. The program does not guarantee internship places, but the management will participate in efforts to find places and internship places for students of the program.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
This program includes forty-five (45) credits distributed as follows:
- 6 compulsory courses of 3 credits (18 cr.)
- 12 compulsory courses of 1 credit (12 cr.)
- 1 internship or application project in mineral exploration (15 cr.)
Required Document List
Possess the appropriate knowledge (minimum 90 undergraduate university credits in geology) and experience deemed relevant in the field of geology (certified by the internship environment and/or one or more employers) and present an application file

- UQAC “confidential report” form completed by 3 referees;
- Letter of Intent;
- transcript of records;
- internship certificate or letter(s) from employer(s);
- an interview may be required, if the admissions committee deems a thorough evaluation of the candidate's education and experience necessary.
