What Students Say
Likes
- Amazing Faculty. The professors are highly qualified PHD scholars, super passionate about their subjects and their teaching methods are so amazing that you genuinely enjoy the classroom lectures and try to understand the subjects beyond the exams prep in some cases
- Amazing Curriculum
- Multiple Clubs related to the career path you are interested in, they are there to help you fill in the gaps to better understand the industry and prepare for interviews
Dislikes
- For the college their is nothing specific that I dislike. Only challenging thing is the Canadian Market. It is very difficult for international students to get internships and jobs because the opportunities are limited, and Canadian students or people who have backgrounds working in the roles similar to they are applying to, (or CFAs for example, in Finance) have an edge over other students.
- This students who are looking for career change will have to hustle a little more than others, but college is there to provide support and guidance
Course Curriculum
- Difficulty level is a mix of easy, medium and hard as we move forward with terms. 3 subjects and 6 classes in a week, 6 weeks for a term
- Positives are that during the first year, all courses provide you basic and intermediate knowledge of all subjects. Class timings are morning/evening, depending on what time slots are assigned.
- No. of students in a class: 45-50. Diversity is highly emphasised; 15 / 20% cap for Indian students
Admission Experience
- I applied to 3 colleges, and I got accepted in all of them
- Rotman School of Management, Toronto, Admitted
- Schulich School of Business, Toronto, Got Accepted
- Ivey Business School, London, Got Accepted
- I cleared the interviews in all 3 schools and received entrance reward scholarships. I Chose Rotman School of Management
- I cleared the interviews in all 3 schools and received entrance reward scholarships.
- Rotman and Ivey are the top 2 B-schools in Canada. Ivey is considered a better choice for consulting, and Rotman is considered a better choice for finance if a comparison has to be made. I was interested in pursuing finance and the location is downtown Toronto.
- But both the colleges have their own strengths and none of them is any lesser than the other. Ivey is an intensive course of 13 months with no internship, whereas Rotman provides a FT MBA of 20 months, internship period included. I wanted to
- Rotman requires you to submit an application and an essay that require you to highlight your X-factor (something unique that sets you apart from the rest). I had 7 years of experience with Big Leading Banks and a GMAT score of 670, IELTS-8.5. I applied in the early round. Once my application was shortlisted, I was invited over for the interview, where I had done thorough research about Rotman. Be prepared to answer questions like,
- -- tell me something about yourself and your professional experience
- -- Why Rotman (mention you want to be part of certain clubs or initiatives, or that you got in touch with alumni.)
- -- Behavioral questions (tell me about a time where you faced XYZ situation)
- I got my offer within 15 days of interview
- Keep an eye out for Rotman meet and greet events where they visit all countries across the world to meet prospective interested candidates before/during admission timelines. (I connected with one of the hiring committee members over video call well before submitting my application.). It makes your chances stronger for getting shortlisted. I know a few people who got admission offers directly at meet and greet events in India, just after a 15-minute conversation with the Rotman representative.
- The overall experience was quite good. The challenging part was completing my essay because it requires non-conventional approach (it is difficult to highlight your X-factor)
- Fall: Within 1.5 months I got my admission letter; I had applied in the early bird round, a round earlier than the first round. The deadline to submit the application for the early round was 3 September (1 year before the program started), followed by 2-3 other rounds. For International students, it is advised that they submit their applications by the 2nd round (early January) in order to avoid Visa issues.
Faculty
- 1 professor and 2-4 tutors for every subject, every section, every section of 50 people. Classrooms are big, delivery of lectures is amazing and sufficient amount of review sessions recorded lectures and help is available to catchup.
- Yes, courses set foundations for every industry, but students need to study a little extra for interviews.
- Not particularly, the career centre is responsible for helping with job search. Alumni network information is available for networking.
Campus Life
- One campus for MBA, Downtown. All kinds of facilities are available in the university area: multiple libraries, sports facilities (Arena), gyms, and medical support is also available.
- RFA, RAMA (Finance Clubs), MCA (consulting), women's exclusive (WIMA), and more clubs for negotiations, entrepreneurship, etc. Many case competitions, Grad Fest (Winter and Summer)
Part Time Jobs
- TA and RA opportunities are available within the school. You can apply for them. I did not try for any part-time opportunities as the schedule is so hectic there is no time.
- No one in my class is doing part-time jobs. Students do not have time to do part-time jobs along with Rotman MBA.
Placement
- Please refer to Rotman site for statistics; I do not have insights on that. Also, the TA/RA opportunities are only available once the students have completed their first year. If they have scored well on the subject in first year, they have a good chance of getting selected as a TA in the second year
Accommodation
- The university housing option is available; I went for private apartments. You need to hire a realtor (free of charge for tenants) to view the apartments and eventually rent one.
- Monthly accommodation for 1BHK is $2000-$3000. The house owners are choosy about approving your application for renting the apartments.
- Recommendations for future students seeking accommodation: Apply for university housing well in advance. Most students stay within a range of 2–5 km.
Exams
- GMAT is not necessary if you have some other certifications or qualifications, like CFA.
- I gave GMAT and TOEFL
- Resume, 2 LOR from professional co-workers, Essay, Work Experience letter
- Yes, 1 interview was conducted. I have filled out the interview process in detail on the previous page
- Once my application was shortlisted, I was invited over for the interview, where I had done thorough research about Rotman.
Fees
- This Year the full program fee is CAD $1,35000, CAD $100,000 for PR and Canadian Citizens. You have to pay the fee divided in 4 parts, semester - wise
- I am not enrolled in university housing but students can submit the application in advance if they need university housing. There is a graduate house (for single student) and family housing options are available for families. There is usually a waitlist and offers are rolled out in serial order; thus, the sooner you apply, the better. Monthly expenditure, approx. $1800-$2000.
