Course Curriculum

8

  • Classroom Teaching is mostly practical, there is absolutely less focused on Theory, Exception in some topics. Professors motive is to pass the learning to all the students so that they can pass in Exams and use it in Practical Life.
  • Most of International Students are from Asia, Philippines, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, There is a lot of Cultural Diversity at UNBC, UNBC Welcomes student from every part of Globe, which creates Ethnic Diversity and Cultural Exchange.
  • UNBC International Department organizes events which focus on Cultural Exchange and helps students to explore other cultures.

Admission Experience

  • I am providing the details of University and status of my Application as follows:
University of Northern British Columbia(UNBC) - Admitted
University of Regina - Received Confirmed Admission
University of Canada West(UCW)- Received Confirmed Admission
University of Calgary - Received Rejection, I was not accepted for September 2023 Term as i Applied in July 2023. I had good Academic Background so that was not a problem.
  • I chose UNBC for various reasons, I don't want to follow the crowd and go to any University in Toronto, Ontario. I was looking for a remote Place with ample opportunities for a Bright Career. I liked UNBC's website and the varieties of Courses offered at UNBC, I have read some positive comments on google.
  • Admission Process: Quite simple, not too complex. IELTS Examination and I had good Academics so it worked out for me.
  • Eligibility Criteria: It's IELTS 6.5 Overall with no less than 6 in any module and Higher Secondary with 60% or equivalent.
  • I applied for January 2024 Intake at UNBC.
  • My application process started in mid September 2023, When I shortlisted some of the Good Universities in Canada.
  • While Admission process take a quite of months, because of time conflict. Usually it takes 3-4 months. In October, UNBC Contacted that they require my Higher Secondary School Transcript so it take me few days to get the Transcript from my High School, and then it take a week to get it deliver at UNBC Campus in Canada.

Class Schedule

8

  • Class Timings depends on every other students schedule and Area of Study.
  • UNBC is open from 8.30 am - 4.30 pm on Weekdays, While Classes starts from 8.00 am - 7.30/ 8.50 pm on Weekdays.”

Faculty

8

  • There are so many Faculty for every Department.
  • The Teaching Methodology is pretty simple and It's working for every Student so its good so far. Teaching helps to get marks and pass in the course. Most of Professors helps student by providing more practice questions regarding the actual exam.
  • Many Professors also conduct Supplementary Instructions class where student can ask doubts to professor or their Teaching Assistant (TA).

Campus Life

10

  • UNBC has 5 campus across British Columbia, Canada. Prince George is the main campus. Other campus are in Quesnel, Peace River-Liard Campus, South-Central Campus all in British Columbia.
  • Facilities like Sir George Library and Northern Sports Center are available at Campus. Services like Medical Clinic, Women's Wellness Center, Academic Success Center are also available.
  • Festivals like Christmas, Diwali and Holi and Easter are celebrated at campus.
  • Extracurricular Activities like JDC West, Intramural Games and etc are held every once in a month. Competition of UNBC Timberwolves also happens on regular basis.

Part Time Jobs

  • Mostly Master Students get TA jobs. Research Jobs are restricted to Research Students.
  • Pay range depends on Character of job and Job profile, Average Pay is almost 25$/ Hour.
  • Other jobs such as Working as a Barista at Coffee shop or Lunch Assistant or Cashier at Bookstore.
  • Maximum hours/ week was 20 Hours per week, But as per new Announcement made by the Immigiration Minister on 13th November, International Student can work for upto 24 Hours/ Week.
  • It's extremely difficult to get an on-campus job, because most of them requires a Reference and Connections. I am also looking forward to get an on-campus job.
  • Most of students earn the minimum basis pay, Most of them tries to work in Retail Sector like Walmart, Canadian Tire, The Home Depot. etc. It's very difficult to get a part-time job while Studying and Managing both is pretty hectic and frustrating. Usually Applying through Indeed and going in-person to drop off resume is the best option to get any job.

Placement

8

  • I haven't really thought about that employment options.
  • Average Salary Range depends on Sector and Nature of job. Average is 45000$- 50000$/ year.
  • Usually Students reach out to the big companies or through an on-campus placement opportunity. Networking is a great tool, While studying you can build a great Network so when you are ready to take a Job you can ask for a reference and Boom! get a job through connection.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I thought to find an Accommodation for myself through Facebook, but I didn't know anything about the city, so i decided to live On-Campus. While Living On-Campus was 30-40% Expensive but it was worth it, As i was getting time for myself, As i don't have to cook, Don't have to take bus everyday.
  • When i lived on Campus, Monthly rent was almost 750$ per month, for 4 months on top of that 750$ of Meal Plan at UNBC Cafeteria.
  • Challenges of Homeless people, Improper Neighbourhood, Not proper vantilated House.
  • I can suggest Future Students to live On-Campus for the 1st Term, As it will help you to make friends, Get use to the Place and people and surroundings.
  • My place is 10 minutes car-drive far, and 20 minutes bus-ride far away from my campus.

Exams

  • Exams needed to apply to UNBC is IELTS with Overall 6.5 Bands with no less than 6 in each Module.
  • No GRE, CAT examinations for Master Students.
  • There is a big checklist of Documents like Statement of Purpose, Medical Examinations, IELTS report, Higher Secondary Certificate(academics), Resume, Letter of Introduction, Letter of Acceptance from your Educational Institute, GIC Certificate for Living Expenses in Canada.
  • Luckily in my case, There were no Interview option to get admission at UNBC. That's a plus point. “

Fees

  • Fees on Offer Letter was $26,276 CAD$.
  • Fees are charged based on Credit Hours and its Semester-Wise. International Students are required to take at least 3 course per semester.
  • Monthly Expense: Rent is Biggest Expense which is almost 55% of total expense
  • Transportation is included in University Fees, + Taxi if you take whenever needed.
  • Grocery is one of Biggest expense, As nowadays its Expensive to live in Canada. Almost 30%
  • Phone Bill is almost 5%
  • Miscellaneous Expense almost 10% includes Coffee, some shopping.

Scholarship

  • There are some Scholarships available for Commerce Students.
  • Till now, I haven't got any Scholarships.
  • I didn't receive any Scholarships yet.
  • I can say that, There are some Scholarships for Master Student, and they typically receives 50-60% of fees as Scholarships, But for Undergraduate its too rarely possible. Master Students from Bangladesh received Scholarships because of they Region and Background and obviously because of there Academics. They require a minimum of 3.5 GPA.
