What Students Say
Likes
- One of the best technical universities in the Lower mainland. Said to have guaranteed job placements for the competitive courses they offer, one being the Computer Systems Technology course.
Required Exams for Admission
Intensive but worth it at the end. Have to have very good time management otherwise you will suffer and if you find yourself falling behind and don't take necessary steps on time, you could even jeopardize your entire course. I've found that BCIT has a diverse selection of students so it's great to make friends from all over the world and have good connections with students from other faculties too.
Course Curriculum
The best thing about BCIT is that, since they're not a university, they can skip out on the elective courses and let you only focus on courses that are relevant to your field. But it is an intensive diploma that I am doing so, so far I've completed 9 courses in the span of my first semester, being from January to the end of May (we have an extra month of classes compared to all other schools).
Faculty
I'm only entering my 2nd semester to I don't know many of them, but I'd say 90% of them are well versed and knowledgeable in their respective fields. Our course head, Rahul Kukreja, would definitely be a stand out though. He's young, like most of us, so super relatable and understanding, all we have to do is reach out and he tries his best to help us with whatever problem that we have.
Campus Life
They offer a variety of services but the best one would be the 'eh-pod', which is a 24 hour accessible study room where we have private rooms that we can book and group study in and lots of computers and print stations if needed, along with fast wifi, drinking water and vending machines.
Placement
I just completed my 1st semester and we've already had the opportunity to visit many software companies, the best being the Electronic Arts facility, who are also our neighbors and have BCIT alumni working there right now, along with 3-4 other 3-D development, etc. companies based in Vancouver.
Accommodation
Rent and living expenses in Vancouver are sky-high!! Around 1000 CAD would get you a single room in Vancouver. Public transport is very good. For students in public universities, we have a U-pass which gives us unlimited travel when school is in session, otherwise its 140 dollars for a 2-zone pass, or 180 for a 3-zone pass.
Exams
Minimum IELTS score of 6.5, I got an overall 8. Minimum of 75% in High School, but the accepted student grade average is said to be >85% Submitted an SOP. Had to mention my purpose of visiting, and had to clearly state my intent and that I'll be going back to my country after completion of my studies as if not, that could be a reason for rejection.
Fees
About 11,000 CAD/semester. So 44,000 CAD for the entire two-year diploma.
Scholarship
No, there are no scholarships for the first term for International Undergrad students in Canada. You may be eligible for them later on depending on your marks.
