The program is designed for the person seeking to attain a Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) License, Category M1 or M2. Federal law requires aircraft to be certified before flight at regular intervals and after maintenance.
An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer is the person who accepts the responsibility for the condition of the aircraft which s/he certifies as airworthy.
Because of this responsibility, an AME must have very a thorough knowledge of the maintenance and repair requirements for each aircraft s/he certifies.
Refer to the Transport Canada website for detailed license information.There are three components required for license application. They are: training, experience, and successfully completing the Canadian Aviation Regulation exam when nearing completion of the experience component. A diploma from this 15-month program provides the full "training" component and 1.5 years of the four-year Ã¢â‚¬Å“experienceÃ¢â‚¬Â component required for an AME license. Approximately 45 per cent of this program is theory study and 55 per cent is practical application of the theory.
