What Students Say
Likes
- The professor that I wanted to do my PhD research with was located in this university.
- The facilities are great, the administration is approachable and very helpful, research facilities are best-in-class, has a phenomenal gym and recreation facility, is home to some very influential professors that are known worldwide.
Dislikes
- The tuition fee is exhorbitant for international students. If you are not there with a scholarship or a grant, it can prove difficult for you. In general, living and studying in Australia is quite expensive.
Overall the campus is large and green and well organised. Administrative support to students is very good since they deal with many international students. Additional support is offered to students if need be, like mental health related facilities, temporary accommodation arrangements, airport pickup when you first enter. They have a good number of very qualified academicians and research scientists that foster a rewarding educational and research experience.
Course Curriculum
I had a rewarding research experience. Also learnt many things the hard way, as it often happens during doctoral research. Was able to successfully obtain a doctoral degree.
Faculty
I worked with a very esteemed lab/professor that had roots in Harvard and the University of Gronningen, the Netherlands. I could not have asked for a more privileged admission.
Campus Life
Research facilities very cutting-edge. The campus has a fantastic gym and recreational center. Spent several hours there. Events, mixers, faculty balls were all very well organised and enjoyable.
Placement
Post their doctoral degree several students were placed very well. Campus placements are not really applicable after the completion of a doctoral degree. Usually jobs are landed through referrals.
Accommodation
I lived on my own in a rented apartment. Rentals in Australia can be expensive. I lived in what Australians call a Granny Flat - a 1 BHK which is attached to a larger house where usually the landlord lives. I was paying them 220 AUD per week.
Exams
No specific requirements, except for the required academic qualifications (Masters degree). Was there for my PhD, so I discussed my admission with the professor and he accepted me as a PhD candidate. PhD application - So PhD proposal, so LOR was requested from masters thesis guide, CV.
Fees
I was there with a full scholarship from the University - the tuition was completely waived off and I received a substantial stipend to cover living expenses.
Scholarship
Fully funded PhD scholarship with stipend for living expenditure.
