The Gates Scholarship is offered each year to exceptional student leaders in an effort to support them in realizing their full potential. Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the Bill Gates Scholarships is as follows:

  • A senior in high school
  • Member of the racial or ethnic groups mentioned on the 
  • A citizen or long-term occupant of the US
  • Being in good academic standing with a cumulative weighted GPA of at least 3.3 on 4.0 scale (87%). 
  • Students must intend to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program at a private, public, or not-for-profit college or university in the US that has received US accreditation.

*Documentation of tribe membership will be needed for American Indians and Alaska Natives,

Application Process

The application deadline for the gates scholarship is September 15, 2024. A candidate must follow the following process to apply for Bill Gates Scholarships:

  • Visit the The Bill Gates Scholarship website.
  • Review the eligibility requirements and selection dates before applying 
  • Click on the "Sign in to Apply" button
  • Register for the scholarship 
  • Submit required documents
  • Attend the selection procedure which will be conducted in two phases
  • A final round will take place in March, where 600 candidates will be chosen.
  • Attend the in-person or virtual interview
  • Wait for the final decision and documents approval

Selection Process

The selection criteria for The Bill Gates Scholarships is mentioned below:

An ideal applicant will possess:

  • A stellar high school scholastic record (top 10% of their graduating class);
  • Demonstrated leadership potential, as seen, for example, by involvement in extracurricular, community service, or other activities.
  • Exceptional personal success potential (e.g., emotional maturity, drive, perseverance, etc.)
  • A semi finalist stage will take place in between December 2024 to January 2025. 
  • Final interviews will be conducted in March 2024.
  • Selection will take place in April 2024
  • The awards will be distributed between July to September 2024.
