- Well planned campus with a big library and study house.
- Fund group event and excursions.
- Supportive staff and good colleagues.
Dislikes
- I cannot say that i dislike it, but the university is very academic based and one must really be very focused.
- The courses usually need two to three semesters, which is more than what they said.
- In winters the very early mornings lectures are bit irritating.
Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
The University of Braunschweig is one of the TU 9 Universities of Germany. It is known for its quality education and has a very good status in Germany. Has good research possibilities.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
I think I did not fit into the criteria as I did not have experience in the related field. The course has a limited number of places, unlike TU Braunschweig where you can get admission if you have everything needed.

Tips to enhance your application
German Language certification done from Goethe is a must and always adds to the application. Keep your CV crisp but good. Don't be lazy and make stupid CV's in word document simply. Use tools like Canva or better. Write your motivation letters your self and keep a personal touch to it. Inform yourself of the course and the structure and possible subjects by researching the website to include it in your motivation letter. Do not just use formats for it.
Admission Experience
- I chose Germany as I loved the culture of Germany, and it is the best for Mechanical Engineering.
- My study here in Braunschweig is full of opportunities and growth in different areas, including Foreign language learning, Meeting various international professionals, performing Indian as well as other dance forms, and developing myself on different levels, including physical fitness.
- It has a QS ranking of 750-760 internationally. I became good at German, very good. I learnt French and started learning Swedish. I started learning Cuban Salsa and already completed two levels.
- Braunschweig is a beautiful city. It is away from the Metro City but has everything and is well-planned.
- There is a big Indian Community here, and we do a lot of cultural events and celebrate festivals together. Every year, there is an International Festival in the city where we open the festival by performing Maharashtrian Dhol-Lezim.
- There are many part-time and full-time job opportunities as the city is near Hannover and mainly to Wolfsburg, which is the main Hub of Volkswagon.
- A wide scope of extracurricular activities makes the grey winters easier.
- For academics, one will always get support from everyone. If you need help, you get it. There are guidance teams for international students as well, who will help you with your various problems.
- If you do not get enough credits in a semester, you get a special email where they ask you if you need guidance and help. If you fail a subject, you can check your answer paper and see your mistakes, then ask the professors for help and betterment.
- The campus is scattered all over the city. It allows you to see the city entirely and it’s fun. You must, however, see which campus is where when you first start studying.
Class Schedule
- It depends on how many subjects you choose per semester. It is compulsory to get a minimum of 15 Credits per semester. That means at least 3-4 subjects.
- Then some subjects have only lectures and some have lectures and practice sessions or labs. This brings it to 6-10 lectures/week. Timings differ according to the institute where your subject is. One course has subjects from different institutions. Classes are usually between 8 am to 7 pm. In my course, I am the only Indian as the course is German-taught.
- One needs one to two hours for daily work. Before exams and for projects, you might need 8-10 hours of self-study or work.
- There is no average strength for German-taught courses. People from different courses can choose one subject. Hence some courses have less, and some have more students attending. It can vary from 8-10 students to 100-150 students.
- German courses have a lot of options for choosing subjects hence, it is very flexible and mixes students from various courses. I guess there are 150 subjects in total from which I have to choose 25. It is important that you complete your 120 credits and focus your subjects based on the specialisation you want to have for yourself.
Faculty
- The teachers are very nice and helpful. They might not always know you like classes in India. The reason is that the class strength is not defined. But If you approach them personally or via Email, you will surely get the help and guidance needed. You will be never left out without help. They generally help you get Part-time jobs in the research field in Institutes.
- You can ask for a Study thesis, master's, or bachelor's thesis as well. The part-time jobs in university are called as HiWi Jobs. They add a lot to your Resume.
- Hence, I would recommend that you try to get one in the subject you are interested in. I will not name a faculty in particular, as everyone who taught me helped me exactly in the same manner.
Campus Life
- TU Braunschweig has 120 institutes divided into six faculties. Each course belongs to one faculty.
- There are various clubs like language club and movie club. A lot of time, Movies are shown with student rates in the University theatre.
- For sports, we can choose at the start of every semester whichever sport we want from the offered and get trained participation for just 9 euros/semester. There are more than 50 types of sports courses available, including Yoga.
- If you are a Music fan, you can be a part of Music bands. This information is always on notice boards, and you have to look around. I am a part of the Salsa club, and I participated in learning Karate. Additionally, there are various events like the First-semester welcome event.
Part Time Jobs
- Indian students mostly end up working in Burger King and Pizza shops or delivery jobs. The sole reason is not knowing German. if you know it, you get better jobs like Billing counter, or selling in Big known cafe.
- You can also get a proper working student job in a company. Everyone is paid the same in Germany except that you decide to work in black for Indian restaurants. They give you non-taxable cash but then you end up working more and getting less pay.
- Your time is important; hence, avoid making this mistake. Work on a contract basis. Getting a job is, I think, not that difficult if you are willing to work. Again, I will repeat "Learn Language to make it better".
- Maximum hours allowed are 20/week. The minimum pay is 12 euros/hour. It increases every year by nearly a few cents. One can find off-campus jobs in shops, cafes, or restaurants by simply visiting them and asking if they have vacancies.
- For jobs in professional fields and firms, use websites like Stepstones, Google Jobs, and Indeed. For on-campus jobs and student jobs, see the website portal often. There, you find job placements. Keep an eye on various notice boards. You can also directly ask the faculty about job availability if you are interested.
- For internships also, you can use the above-mentioned Websites.
- Software-based jobs often need German skills up to A2, but others will surely ask you for B1 or B2. I have seen personally that people who are good at German get Jobs and Internships quickly as compared to others, except if you are in IT or software. Hence, make it a priority to learn and practice and be able to speak and write good German.
Placement
- Students find jobs using websites like Stepstone, LinkedIn, Google Jobs, indeed. A lot of them get jobs within 6 months. Let us say 60-70%.
- One must see that one has the needful qualities and has made the CV good. A good Professional "Bewerbungsbild" is a must.
- Check the Internet and see how the Bewerbungsbild (Application photo) is. Avoid adding unnecessary experiences in your CV. Put job-relevant stuff only.
- Average salary is 5000 Euros. The salaries depend on the state as well. Eastern states and cities like Dresden offer lower salaries as compared to the state of Bavaria, which is south of the state of Badenwüttenberg.
Accommodation
- Use Apps like Ebay-kleinanzeigen or WG gesucht. Facebook Indian community groups are useful as well. However, check the offer and person first; to see if it is genuine.
- Never pay online without reading the contract and getting it signed.
- You can apply at Studentenwerk for hostels. Costs differ according to city.
- There are also offers from German families to stay with them on University or studentenwerk websites sometimes. That is also a good option for integration. I stayed two years with a family and then in the Studentenwerk hostel.
