Dislikes
- Sometimes you need to do everything on your own like finding your apartment, opening your bank account, applying for your residence permit, etc after coming here. It would be nice if someone guides you in all this bureaucracy-related work.
It is a very good university for a PhD in life sciences and medicine or any other biology-related field. The education, facilities, infrastructure, and funding is really good here.
Course Curriculum
I am doing research here. I don't have to attend any courses. I just have to focus on my thesis work.
Faculty
In my lab, there are almost 20 people under my professor. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. My professor is Prof. Dr. Gergana Dobreva. She is a really nice supervisor and very knowledgeable.
Campus Life
Campus life is very good. Almost every instrument that you need for your project is available. Sports, wifi, library, etc are also very good.
Placement
You need to find a job on your own. But, it is really easy to find a good job after completing your PhD from Heidelberg University.
Accommodation
I live in a rented apartment. It is very much affordable for a PhD student. It is around 300 to 700 euros per month based on your needs.
Exams
Just apply online from their website and send your CV and cover letter. After that, they will take your interview and let you know the result after a few days. I had to submit my CV and my cover letter for the advertised position on the university website. After that, they took my interview and let me know the result after a few days. In my interview, they asked me to do a 20-minute presentation about my master's project. Yes, I had one interview with the Professor under whom I wanted to work. It was related to my previous project experience and why I would like to join their lab.

No. In Germany, PhD students receive salary of around 1500-2000 euros per month net.
